February has been an emotional month. My husband and I brought home the Australian Shepherd puppy we’ve been waiting for since October, and the next day, my grandmother died. Talk about an eventful first and second day for a new month.
I grew up with three living and very involved and supportive grandparents. I lost all of them in the span of about 3.5 years. Those deep losses along with finding out that my husband and I will never have children the way we planned has made for a lot of grief and sadness for us. But, we’ve also had so much cause for joy and celebration in that time — launching Jessica Albert Photography, Josh’s graduation from residency, watching friends get married and grow their families, becoming an aunt and uncle to the sweetest little boy.
So, why am I sharing all of this with you on my photography page? Well, I want to remind you that you are seen. I want you to know that it’s OK if your wedding day or photo session day comes with a lot of mixed emotions. I know that grief and pain are often mixed with or behind parts of even the happiest of days. Whether it’s your first family photo session following a divorce, a pregnancy after a miscarriage(s), a wedding day without a loved one — if you chose to share your story with me I promise to honor and respect it all. The good and the bad. There’s space for your feelings and for the beauty of the moment.
Since it didn’t feel appropriate to share anyone’s photos with the post, I’ll instead leave you with the song that has come to mean a lot to me since my dad played it to honor my grandmother at her celebration of life.
Thank you to all of those who have and will trust me to document your memories and special occasions. 🤍
