A fast look back at Hope and Alec’s day at Aldrich Mansion. The getting ready, the first look, the walk toward the water, the moments in between that tend to disappear if no one is watching for them.

Late summer light on this property is something I look forward to every year, and these are the moments I hope to be trusted with on every wedding day. The ones you will not think to ask for, but the ones you will look back on most.

If you love coastal Rhode Island weddings and photographs that hold up decades from now, I would love for you to follow along.

Black and white, from the ceiling draping to the reflections on the table below.

This tablescape was a study in contrast. An eight foot wedding cake as the centerpiece. Every detail intentional. Nothing left to chance.

This is the kind of setting that reminds us why we love this work, watching a couple’s vision become a room you can feel.

A bright summer day at The Elms Mansion in Newport RI, and a couple who forgot the camera was even there.

That’s the part I love most — the moments no one is posing for. The way he watched her walk toward him. The way she laughed at something only he heard.

Light like that, love like that .. you just follow it.

More from this day coming soon 🤍

Lace catching window light. A groom forgetting how to breathe. A bride who has never looked more like herself.

Some days remind you why this work matters. Not the schedule, not the logistics, just two people and the way they look at each other when they think no one else is watching.

We get to witness that on repeat, in Newport ballrooms and along the Rhode Island coast, and it never once feels ordinary.

If you are planning a wedding in Newport, Cape Cod, or anywhere along New England’s coastline and want a photographer who treats your day like the heirloom it will become, we would love to talk. Inquire through the link in our bio.

Some weddings ask to be remembered. Hope and Alec’s asked to be treasured.

This past weekend, Aldrich Mansion opened its doors to two families joined by something rare, a love that felt unhurried and entirely their own. Against the Gilded Age architecture and the open water of Narragansett Bay, their day unfolded the way the best ones do: quietly, tenderly, full of joy that never needed an audience to be real.

We watched the stillness before the ceremony. We watched Alec’s face change the moment he saw her. These are the details that matter twenty years from now, long after the flowers have faded and the toasts are half remembered. It is why we photograph weddings with patience and reverence, and why we believe a wedding day is not content. It is family history in the making.

Aldrich Mansion remains one of Rhode Island’s most storied settings for a wedding, its Italian Renaissance architecture and waterfront grounds offering something both grand and deeply personal. For couples planning a Newport wedding or a coastal Rhode Island celebration, it is a venue that rewards a photographer who understands light, history, and restraint in equal measure.

A dip kiss on the seawall at Belle Mer, the harbor gone silver behind them.

Overcast evenings on the water make the softest portraits of the year. No squinting, no harsh shadow, and the whole sky working as one enormous diffuser.

If the forecast turns gray on your wedding day, that is not a loss. It is the light most photographers would choose if they could.

Evening at the shore has its own kind of stillness.

The light softens. The pace slows. Everyone pauses just to watch it happen.

This is the part of the day no one has to be told to enjoy. It simply asks for your presence

For as long as I can remember, my love for dogs and my love for photography have gone hand in hand.

There are home videos of me as a toddler, chasing a dog across an island beach, and even now, decades later, my soul lights up every time I rewatch it. Something in that footage, the pure unfiltered joy of a child and a dog and the open sand between them, has never left me. It is, in many ways, where all of this began.

So when a sweet reel landed in my inbox this morning from Bella Ottone - the sister who tagged along to help wrangle the pup at her sibling’s engagement session, I felt that same spark all over again. A golden retriever, weaving between two people who are clearly in love, chasing joy the way only a dog can. It is the same joy I chased on that beach as a little girl, and I do not think I will ever tire of photographing it.

This is the part of the work people rarely talk about. It is not only the couple in front of my camera. It is the whole circle that shows up around them, the sister with treats in her pocket, the dog who has no idea this is a milestone and simply knows these are his people. These are the moments that end up meaning the most once the album is finally in hand.
To this couple, thank you for letting me photograph the beginning of your story, golden retriever included. I already cannot wait for 2027.

Kind of chic to build a life around your camera roll instead of your calendar.

Kind of chic to spend your Tuesday afternoon inside a mansion on the Newport coast because that is simply where the job takes you.

Kind of chic to call editing film at midnight a form of relaxation.

Kind of chic to have never once had a boring Monday in eleven years.

People ask what it is like to live my dream and the honest answer is that it looks a lot like this. Camera bags by the door. Film in the fridge. A calendar that reads more like a love letter to the coast than a schedule.

I did not fall into this life. I built it one wedding at a time, one couple who trusted me with something they will hand down for generations, one gallery delivered with the kind of care I would want if it were my own family’s history on the line.

So yes. Kind of chic to live your dream. Even chicer to help other people live theirs on the best day of their lives.

If you are engaged and dreaming of a coastal wedding told with the same care, my inbox is open and my 2027 calendar has a handful of dates left. Link in bio to inquire.
