Jesus' Sweet Ride - Vieques

I would not have thought he rode English. I think the emblem on the blanket is a 'C' for Christ. That's how I knew.

It’s been a lovely fall…

Bay Road Shack, Durham, NH

The color has finally popped, after a very slow start. You’d think that after sixty-six New England autumns I’d be used to it by now, but it shocks and knocks me out every year. I’m grateful...

Hot off the table, meet “Jonah and the Blubber Lips”

A lobster pot buoy from a beach in Stonington, Maine; a gooseneck lamp and dorsal fin from my own personal Mecca, The Stonington Town Dump; cute button eyes; arms of a very dead starfish for those little side fins, and those blubber lips from a bit of pipe insulation. Click for whole images.

A cutie patutie if ever there was one!

As I mentioned in an earlier post, I’ve been documenting my cat’s victims for awhile now. My heart is crushed every time I discover one of Ted’s kills at the door. What to do, what to do? Well, say a prayer and dress them up. It takes the edge off my pain and makes their totally unnecessary and untimely deaths have a particle of meaning.

This little chippy is Nigel. He fancies himself a dancer and those clod hoppers, go-go boots. A for effort, Nigel...

Ok, Cool Ed fans....I’m about to share a weird little secret with you. I photograph dead animals. Stage them, pose them, photograph them. It’s gross. I started doing this a few years ago when my cat, Ted—a prolific hunter—would bring his tiny trophies to the door. I HATED finding the crumpled/chewed/mangled bodies of chipmunks, mice, moles, voles, catfish, birds, and flying squirrels. It crushed my heart every single time. I would say a little prayer for them before dispatching their remains to the river. What could I do to alleviate some of my pain? See their deaths as an opportunity for creativity, of course! Talk about some weird lemonade...

A new piece hot off the kitchen table! Inspired by the nests of our local great blue herons, meet Stork.

Driftwood, feathers from something the cat dragged in, a bit of Stonington, Maine lobster pot rope, a candle holder rescued from a thrift shop, a little rodent skull, plastic babies (with remarkably odd hair), and last—but not least—a piece of a copper and brass tube from a boatswain’s whistle...how does all that happen?? It was definitely fun watching him evolve...

~ Vieques Chicks ~

Vieques is absolutely crawling with chickens! Everywhere! This year we carried a bucket of cracked corn in the car to hurl at them...it was fantastically fun to watch them come running. A real Foghorn Leghorn experience, lol! The folks who live in this house must adore the chickens, seeing as they’ve immortalized some...a very Eastery scene...

The third pelican is visible in this one. We enjoyed each other’s company for a few quiet, peaceful moments before I slipped back under the water...it was lovely.

I noticed these chaps while I was snorkeling. There is actually a third guy there but only a little bit of his noggin is visible. They appeared to be having a pretty relaxing time of it and didn’t seem to mind me passing by...
