What a glorious sunrise over Townsend Bible Church in Newburgh, IN!

The rare Super Blue Moon - blue meaning 2 full moons in the same month, and super meaning the moon being full at its closest point to the earth in orbit. Probably the best detail I've had on the moon and Saturn as well!

The night sky never ceases to amaze me. I didn't offer much creativity with these shots, but it was a good technical exercise with some newer gear, and a bit of a surprise to pull off this much detail considering all the light pollution in southern Indiana!

Have you ever seen a lunar halo? As light makes its way through ice crystals in high altitude clouds, something similar to a rainbow is formed. And while lunar halos usually precede rain and storms about to move in, it's usually the type of clouds hinting at the weather, not the halo itself.

Snowflakes are like fingerprints - each one is unique!

Even though we had plenty of snow the past week, it took until around 2am on 2/18/21 to finally get some flakes that weren't as icy. I've found the more icy the snow, the more it appears as miniature spears of ice. You'll notice some of those among the snow flakes in these photos. I'm still hoping we'll have another snow with bigger flakes. But until then, these will have to do! :)
Equipment:
Canon EOS R
Canon 85mm f/1.8, and 50mm 1.4 reverse mounted on the 85mm
Yongnuo Flash and Flash Triggers

f/16 (on the 85mm lens - the 50mm lens was wide open f/1.4), ISO 100, between 1.6-2 seconds shutter speed

NEOWISE Comet
This is my first time tracking and stacking an image. I'm overall really pleased as I was able to clearly see the blue ion tail through the hazy, humid, hot sky of Boonville, IN! But the best part was the late night conversation it gave to me and my son who tagged along!
Here's the process. I used my Canon EOS R with Canon 70-300L lens. I also used the Skywatcher Star Adventurer star tracker which is programmed to rotate counter to the earth's rotation.
I didn't have the alignment exact, so my shots were still at ISO 1600, but I was able to pull off 60 second shots without a problem. My lens must have slid down a bit as I was at 277mm. My aperture was at f/5.6. On top of this, my lens was fogging up a bit for some of the images. That's what I get for rushing the prep work and going out without much planning!
After a couple hours I returned home. I used seven images that were tracking the comet, and I loaded them from Lightroom into Photoshop as layers for the stacking process. I manually aligned them by using the "Difference" blend mode, selected them all to "Create a Smart Object," selected "Mean" for Layer - Smart Objects - Stack Mode, and then saved the file so I could make some final adjustments in Lightroom.
This was the first I've ever tracked and stacked, and I can now see why it's done! I've got a long way to go as I dive deeper into astrophotography, but I hope sharing the process can be helpful for some folks along the way.
