Drum and Bugle Corps of Newark: Drum and Bugle Corps has a fifty-year history in the City of Newark as a youth activity. Newark produced three national champions namely, Blessed Sacrament Golden Knights (The corps record includes nine national titles, 19 New Jersey State titles, 11 National Dream wins and the first World Open Championship in 1963); St. Lucy Cadets (American Legion National Champio

nship in 1968 in New Orleans, LA); St. Joseph’s Cadets (not duplicated by any other city in America). From 1950 until 1973 Newark was the home of over fourteen (14) nationally known and renounced drum and bugle corp. Clearly the top 10 corps in the nation was from Newark, New Jersey during this time, with challenges arising from the Midwest toward the end of this era, most notably from the Chicago Cavaliers.
