Spring migration in NYC is starting to build… but it’s not quite there yet.
Over the past few weeks in Central Park and Bryant Park, I’ve been seeing the early signs. Ospreys diving into the water, a hooded warbler moving through the trees, and even a Virginia rail showing up where you wouldn’t expect it.
It’s that in-between time. Not peak migration, but close enough that anything can happen.
I wrote a new blog post about what it feels like being out there right now.

Spring migration is starting to show up again.
After the quiet of winter, seeing those first songbirds always feels like something has shifted.
I put together a small set inspired by that — a Blue Grosbeak bag paired with an Indigo Bunting cloth set.
A simple way to carry a bit of that feeling into everyday life.

A Trumpeter Swan spending time with a Mute Swan at Pier 5 in Brooklyn… not something you expect to see in New York City.
Swipe to see the water splash and a close look inside the bill.
After being reported multiple times last week, I was glad to see it still there on Saturday. It turned out to be the easiest rare bird to find.
This impressive visitor has been spending time with a Mute Swan, calmly sharing the water along the Brooklyn waterfront.
Trumpeter Swans are the largest native waterfowl in North America, which makes seeing one here in NYC especially exciting.
What I always enjoy about moments like this is how they bring the birding community together. It was great seeing many familiar faces along the pier, all watching the same unexpected visitor.
Little moments like this are a reminder of why I keep exploring the parks and waterfronts of this city. You never quite know what might appear next in Wild New York.

Have you ever seen a Trumpeter Swan in NYC?

February can feel endless in New York. The gray light. The shorter days. Even Central Park feels quieter.
So sometimes, you pivot.
My newest blog post reflects on winter birding in Florida and the contrast between warmth and winter wildlife in New York. From Bald Eagles standing on Hudson River ice to Burrowing Owls in open Florida prairie, it’s about chasing light and resetting perspective.

Saturday morning on Governors Island.
Sunshine, temperatures in the 40s, and that crisp winter air that makes everything feel clear.
It felt like a good day for ducks.
We found many Red-breasted Mergansers out on the water. More females than males, which always catches my attention. The males with their striking green head and fiery crest. The females subtle but elegant, standing tall in the water, wings lifted as if claiming their space.
Winter birding in New York has its own quiet beauty. You just have to slow down enough to notice it.

Spring in Yellowstone National Park offered more bird moments than I ever expected.
From Bald Eagles and American Pelicans in flight to Harlequin Ducks resting in rushing water and Mountain Bluebirds perched quietly near the boardwalks.
These images are part of my newest blog post—a slow, personal look at Yellowstone in spring, filled with wildlife, birds, video, and audio.

Yellowstone National Park had been on my bucket list for a long time.
When we finally went in early spring, it became more than a trip. It became a reminder to slow down, to notice, and to let moments unfold without rushing past them.
I just published my biggest blog post to date—77 photographs, 4 short videos, a custom map, and an audio version of me reading the story aloud.
It’s a deep, quiet look at Yellowstone in spring.

One of my last photographs of 2025.
A Red-tailed Hawk in Central Park, caught mid-flight.
This past year ended in a way I never expected, with the loss of my brother Tim. It was heavy, and it changed how the year closed for me.
This image feels like that moment in between — still carrying what was, but moving forward into what comes next. As I step into 2026, I’m holding space for both.
