This is Centralia, Pennsylvania πΊπΈ
A real town. Real families. Real homes.
In 1962 a small trash fire accidentally
lit the coal mines underground π
The fire spread. The smoke rose through
the streets. The ground cracked open.
For 20 years families watched their town
slowly die beneath their feet π’
In 1984 the government forced everyone out.
Mothers cried. Old men refused to leave.
Children said goodbye to their homes forever.
The houses were demolished one by one.
The streets emptied.
The forest grew back over everything.
And the fire beneath the ground?
It is STILL burning today.
Scientists say it will keep burning
for another 250 years. π₯
A whole town. Gone forever.
Because of one small fire. π
This is the real Centralia.
