First time I shot , I was sure it would be my last. It was 2016, and I was only about a year in “the scene”. They had me come shoot because the house photographer was unavailable one week.

The show was a big deal. I’d seen the pictures. Way cooler than me. I was much more timid then. I lacked the authority of a professional, and truth be told, I didn’t have a lot of experience.

Photographers will understand- it’s hard taking pictures of moving subjects in a room dimly lit by mixed light sources of varying temperatures. Add to that, it is jam packed like a can of sweaty, hip and stylish sardines. I was a bit out of my depth.

Difficult room aside, this show was hot. A weekly staple showcasing a rotating cast of the who’s who of up-and-comers in NYC comedy. Lineups frequently featured folks from the big leagues, and it was a fun hang where comics could just come be with their friends. Best part was, all of this was free, in the front bar of a grungy rock venue in Brooklyn.

The pictures I took in 2016 are *fine*. I looked at them today. A bit dark, grainy, mostly out of focus, and green. But to no one's surprise, they didn't ask me back.

As luck would have it, just 2 years later, the show was put in the capable hands of my very funny and very hot friends, , , - and they took me with them.

Listen, I know it's a bar show in Bk - but being the house photographer for the Knit felt like I had accomplished something major. It was a responsibility that I took seriously. I had very big and talented shoes to fill- the best people shot this show- Icons who honestly created the genre of comedy photography as we know it. I wanted to do right by them, the show, the community, and especially the powerhouse women that gave me this gift.

I'm sad is shuttering its doors, and that must go along with it. I'm just a fly on the wall, but you are all so important to me. I want you to know how much I appreciate having had the opportunity to be part of this.

I feel so privileged to have had not just a 2nd chance to shoot , I got about 100 other chances. Thank you.

“All eyes on me.

I constantly avoided reflections
not daring to see myself
a window on a door entering the
hallway
where they watched me
waiting
for a slip up
a limp wrist
or my usual flair
that I compressed so deeply
I lost it

on stage you could
stare
because the boards allowed me to
hide
and shine
simultaneous
the stage is magic like that

I didn’t see myself until after I came out of my cocoon
I wiped the blood from my eyes and
took my own breath away when I started flying

“You’ve changed”- they say
“You’re supposed to”- I reply

now, like modern architecture
I demand to be seen
if you don’t see me now
you will

is it hunger for fame?
the realization of self?
or both?

now I wear my flair everyday
a badge of pride
I take in every watchful eye as if it
were wind under my propellers
pushing me forward towards the sun

I’m not scared to fly towards it
because if I start on fire
it’s with love for myself
which sounds egotistical
but don’t we all deserve that?”

approached .zilbert and I back in February to do a conceptual makeup/photography collaboration for pride with Gilbert as the subject. It was a unique and creatively fulfilling experience all around. What an honor to be part of something so beautiful! Happy Pride everyone! 🌈

Hi everyone! It’s me! Today is my birthday 🥳 🎂 🎉 and turns out, I don’t know what to do with my hands in pictures either!

I started doing birthday “self” portraits in 2020 when I found myself suddenly without any plans that day. This year I have no excuse other than it’s my birthday and I wanted to play dress up and hop in front of the camera for a change. Ya’ll make it look easy, it’s not easy!

I love and am grateful for each and every one of you. Thank you for everything!

Featured in this years birthday portrait is a fog machine (just a little haze) and one of my new seamless backdrop papers in pink! and I had a lot of fun making these shots
