ARTIST'S STATEMENT
Now as I was young and easy under the apple boughs
About the lilting house and happy as the grass was green
The night above the di**le starry
Time let me hail and climb
Golden in the heydays of his eyes
And honoured among wagons
I was prince of the apple towns
And once below a time
I lordly had the trees and leaves
Trail with daisies and barley
Down the rivers of the windfall
light
- from Fern Hill by Dylan Thomas
As Welsh poet Dylan Thomas found inspiration in the innocence of his childhood, I also find beauty in simple things. However, I am also awed by their hidden complexities - the perfect shape of the petals on a rose, the reflection of a cypress tree rising on still waters, the speckled feathers of a seagull fishing on the shore, the stark contrast of the stripes on a lighthouse. Anyone can create a photograph, but to me, the ART of photography is equal parts luck and ingenuity … discovering a perfect, fleeting moment in the dynamic world and capturing it forever in a most extraordinary way. I strive to create stories as well as pictures … inspiring those who admire my work to see not only the image, but the life behind the image as well. I admire the work of Matthew Rolston, Michael Rosenthal, Margaret Bourke-White, Brigitte Lacombe, Ansel Adams, Marc Adamus, Galen Rowell and Jim Brandenburg - among many others. I hope that my work inspires you as much as the subjects of my photographs have inspired me. Jonelle Kimbrough is a native of Fayetteville, North Carolina.
