some harsh truths about being a photographer i wish someone told me earlier:
1. youâre not just a photographer â youâre a therapist, a director and a problem solver. you manage people, emotions and situations the entire time.
2. 80% of this job is communication, not shooting. if youâre not getting bookings, itâs not your camera â itâs your communication. how you speak, how you show up online, how you interact with people in real life.
3. youâre always âonâ, even when youâre exhausted. this isnât a 9â5, itâs every day. itâs a lifestyle. you constantly observe, think, notice â you donât switch it off.
4. your equipment doesnât matter as much as you think. your vision does. you can create something strong even on basic gear if you know what youâre doing.
5. consistency beats talent. every. single. time. itâs about how you show up daily. you canât disappear for a week and expect results. you have to keep going.
iâm a new yorkâbased photographer & videographer working with people, brands and events.
