Stuart Bruce Photo

Stuart Bruce Photo With regard to photography, I have a lot to learn. But, while doing so, I'm having a great time! Where ownership is known, a credit is as given.

Indulge me as I post a few of my photos along with those from some truly amazing photographers I admire. After years of being a somewhat creative type, I picked up a camera and began to add another dimension to my world — I haven’t put it down since. I've always been fascinated with color, shape, proportion and a sense of place. Combining photography with my love for NYC is one of the things that continues to inspire me.

I was recently asked to compile a small album of photos I took of local pets and wildlife. All pics were shot within the past few years in the NYC area.

FlyNYON, a Kearney, NJ based helicopter company lets tourists take once-in-a-lifetime photos thousands of feet above famous landmarks. The aerial photography company gives brave individuals the chance to take stomach-churning pictures of their legs hanging out of an open-door helicopter. The shot, known by the company as a 'shoe selfie' - has become a huge hit, with limbs being snapped over the likes of the Empire State Building, Central Park, Times Square and Freedom Tower.

It's been five years since I was lucky to get a private tour inside the abandoned Manhattan palace known as Temple Court located at 5 Beekman Street in the Financial District. Hard to believe that I was walking through the boarded up and gutted remains of this landmark dubbed the "building with the most beautiful atrium in New York City." When 5 Beekman Street (then known as Temple Court) was built in the 19th century, its ten stories of terra-cotta and brick qualified the building as a skyscraper. Originally built by banker/Irish immigrant Eugene Kelly, who had amassed the nineteenth-century equivalent of $630 million by the time he died. 5 Beekman was originally called the Kelly Building and cost $400,000 to build, one of a new wave of 9 and 10-story buildings popping up between 1870 and 1890 between Bowling Green and City Hall. By the time it was built, it had been renamed Temple Court, and it received only one negative review, which called the building's two towers "donkey's ears". These days, no one's saying anything about donkey ears. —Stuart Bruce Photo
