Congratulations to Photo Safe founder, Segal who is the recipient of the Abbott House Dignity of Family Life Award this evening. Abbott House was our first agency partner and has been consistently committed to the mission of Photo Safe. In honor of Karen's generous and visionary leadership, the volunteer leaders, photographers, board and friends of Photo Safe are proud to establish an annual event for children of the Abbott House community who show interest in the art of photography. The workshop is named in honor of Karen's beloved brother Bob who was a sweet soul as well as a passionate and wonderful photographer throughout his life. Congratulations Karen! We love you! Congratulations Abbott House! We are so proud of our founder, Karen Segal. Karen began with a loving, inspiring dream and built an amazing team of volunteer photographers and generous friends who believed in her vision. This "little engine that could" brings joy and treasured memories to thousands of children in foster care and their extended families in New York, New Jersey and beyond! Hooray for our Hero! 💥🤩

Honoree Spotlight!

Karen Segal is the founder and CEO of Photo Safe , an organization whose passionate mission is to “stop moments from running away,” to create a historic record where one does not exist, and to help fill an emotional and psychological gap that children in foster care often experience.

Knowing our origins helps us construct a healthy narrative about who we are as individuals. Photos help us create, remember and share our life stories. They also provide security, and fill us with memories and meaning that calm us in unpredictable times.

Since we began our partnership with Photo Safe in 2013, their world-renowned photographers have been volunteering their time to capture and preserve moments and memories for kids in our care.

We will proudly honor Karen Segal with the Dignity of Family Life Award on Tuesday, October 20th during our Hooray For Our Heroes event!

We are very proud to announce that Photo Safe was honored yesterday by the New Jersey Department of Children and Families, and the non-profit FAFS, for our commitment to improving the lives of children in NJ's foster care community.

The NJ branch of Photo Safe is managed by the husband/wife team of Marcus Barry and Beverly Katz, two innovative (and fun) people who volunteer many weekends to ensure children in foster care enjoy the benefits of photography, just like other kids do.

Thank you to volunteer photographers James Robinson and Jennifer Lee, who photographed over 200 foster children/family members during an extraordinary “Family Photo Day” at Forestdale. And profound thanks, also, to volunteers Sharon Dominguez, Shanequa Anderson, and David Frank for expertly managing the steady queue of eager portrait sitters.
