Filmmaker Michael Moore burst onto the nonfiction film scene in 1989 with Roger & Me, a documentary about the the devastating effects of widespread layoffs by General Motors. His latest documentary, Fahrenheit 11/9, is a call to arms — or, rather, to the voting booth — to resist the Trump administration. At Film School Rejects Moore offers documentary tips, including this: Don’t make a documentary — make a film.

Love him or hate him, one of the most (in)famous documentary filmmakers today has some damn good advice to share.

One of the interesting features of the new Nikon Z6 and Z7 full-frame cameras is their ability to output 10Bit video through the HDMI port for use with external recorders, notes DIY Photography, adding that the 10Bit HDMI output is something that Sony doesn’t offer. Now you can see what video shot this way looks like in the short film Dreaming, which filmmaker Marin Marinov shot using a Nikon Z6 prototype. The film’s daytime shots were captured internally using Nikon’s flat profile. The night shots were made using N-Log with the Atomos Ninja Inferno external recorder.

One of the big features in the new Nikon Z6 and Z7 cameras is their ability to output 10Bit video through the HDMI port for use with external recorders. But we haven’t seen too many samples of video shot this way. Dreaming is a short film by filmmaker Marin Marinov shot using a Nikon Z6 prototype....

Time lapse. Hyperlapse. Infrared. Even time travel (sort of). In an age when everyone has a camera in their pocket that can also shoot video, photographers and filmmakers are using a gamut of techniques to grab the attention of viewers. Today we've gathered several short videos that have been getting attention on the web for their creative depictions of landscapes and cityscapes. Mwita Chaca's "Welcome to Hong Kong" mixes time lapse, hyperlapse, and real-time footage to capture the city. Photographer Christian Mohrle's 8K time lapse "Infrascapes" was made from 20,000 infrared images. There's also an aerial view of Scotland and a drone flyover of ancient Pompeii

Want to make a better time lapse? A new Fstoppers tutorial suggests using 10-stop neutral-density filters. “For us, the most ideal shutter length for time-lapse photography is right around 2 seconds. This is long enough to blur most people, water, and traffic while still keeping your total time-lapse capture time within a reasonable time of 30 minutes or less. With a strong 10 or 15-stop neutral density filter, you can easily create single exposures of 10 seconds up to a full minute for some dramatic effects,” explains Charleston, S.C.-based photographer Patrick Hall.

Full article: In this short photography tutorial, we show you how you can improve your timelapses by taking long shutter exposures and exporting them in Adob...

The Cerrado covers 25 percent of Brazil's land mass. The savannah is the world's oldest biome, or community of plants and animals, notes Fabio Erdos, a Brazilian documentary filmmaker and photographer whose work focuses mostly on non-profit and foundation projects. In collaboration with the Brazilian chapter of the non-profit ActionAid International, Erdos, a PPD reader, shot a series of three short films for a campaign to protect the Cerrado. The films show a little of the daily life (and struggles) of three traditional communities from the region.
