Happy Wednesday!

I recently moved my newsletter to Substack. I write four or five a year. Think of them as studio notes—brief reflections on what I’m making and thinking about, places to see the work in situ, and occasional writing about the ideas that shape it.

Some of you have been on this journey with me for quite a while now. Thank you.

I don’t add people to my mailing list just because they smiled at me, so subscribe if you’d like. It’s free and infrequent.

And it might be nice to have your email address in case of a social media apocalypse.

You can read the latest post through the link in my bio.

Oh, and a Happy Eid to all those who celebrate!

“Test Prep (S**t I Do)” is a part of Context 2026 at that opens tonight 5-8PM.

Context 2026 is curated by Sara Ickow, Associate Director of Exhibitions at the International Center of Photography. Thanks for including my work, Sara!

Please head to the link in my bio to read Sara’s beautiful curatorial statement and for details about the show.

The exhibition is up through April 18th, 2026.

“S**t I Do is informed by Sara Ruddick’s Maternal Thinking (1989), which conceptualizes mothering as physical, intellectual, and emotional labor shaped by the needs of the child and the surrounding environment. Using photography and digital collage, I reassemble everyday symbols into flattened, staged scenes tinged with absurdity, employing satire to highlight the complexities of contemporary motherhood.”

My youngest and I had such a good time making this video. I now appreciate how many takes it takes to do a few seconds! And all this effort to share that the three images in the reel are each showing at the following venues!

It was so wonderful to have my mother with me last night at the opening reception of “Rooted Resistance” at the Old Stone House, Brooklyn. It was surreal to stand in front of my new piece with her.
Historically I have gone to Delhi to see my parents, who preferred not to travel due to my father’s ill health. Losing him has been a tough one to negotiate at so many levels. But I got to have my mother come stay with me for a bit. She has been watching me work on the piece while doing other s**t around our home. And seeing it up in this beautiful space last night made her very happy. I am surprised by how happy it made me feel.
This show has come together beautifully and I would encourage you to go see some absolutely gorgeous and thoughtful work made by environmental stewards at this historic landmark, that in and of itself is a marvel.

I have been working in the shadows, friends. I am happy to share that the next piece in the S**t I Do series is here, and I am looking forward to its first time out in the light. "Recycling" will share space with other wonderful works as a part of the upcoming exhibition, "Rooted Resistance: Art, Care and Environmental Activism".

Curated by members Allison Belolan, Katherine Gressel, Caroline McAuliffe, and Jocelyn Russell, this thought-provoking exhibition explores how artists navigate the overlapping demands of creative labor, caregiving responsibilities, and environmental stewardship, transforming these tensions into visions of hope and systemic change.

Come see Recycling and other timely works in this show up close.

Opening Reception: Thursday, October 16, 6-8 PM

I’m thrilled to share that I am a 2025 NYSCA/NYFA Artist Fellow in Photography! (And this year’s Deutsche Bank Americas Foundation Fellow!)

I am so grateful for this support and peer recognition and to be part of a program that has supported artists of all disciplines across New York State for 40 years. Deeply honored to be selected along with other brilliant artists and have my name in NYFA’s history. Excited to use the award to continue making work that challenges predominant cultural notions of womanhood and motherhood. Thank you and
