Yesterday, I brushed the rust off my camera and lighting gear and did my first photo shoot (of anyone not related to me) since the start of the pandemic. Thanks for being patient with me and thanks to my daughter Fenya for being such a great lighting assistant!

You may have noticed that I haven’t posted much over the past year, and I thought I’d give an update on my photography (and life in general). Photography has never been my main job. I had worked the previous 10 years as a Research Assistant Professor at MUSC in Charleston, SC, but for several reasons, it was time for me to move on. After interviewing for several new academic jobs, I decided to accept a teaching position as an Instructor in the Physics and Astronomy Department at the College of Charleston. As you can imagine, with this career change and with learning to teach in an online environment, I haven’t had time to take on any photography jobs. The little bit of photography I do have time to do is either of my family or what I think of as meditative photography—where I slow down and observe the world around me, taking in details that I would normally miss. All this is to say that you’re likely to see some different photography in my feed going forward.
