With or without a camera I am a born pugilist. If you don’t believe it ask my partner in crime writer Claudia G Dowling. Or better yet talk with a local barber, Danny. who tried to turn me away from his shop even though I made an appointment the day before. He refused to honor it. He politely but firmly said to my face that real barbers don’t cut women’s hair. We were not alone in the shop owned by large men from Kosovo. Quietly they held their breath at the spectacle of a squall in their orderly man’s space. I warned him not to hit the hornets nest. He weakened and the switch in his brain flipped. It was a chance I wasn’t going to ever get it again so I jumped on the big man’s chair and gave him ideas how to fluff my bed head. With a flourish he used his comb and clippers and whipped through my dry so fast I purred with pleasure. And so we bridged the gulf between man and woman one tendril at a time.

It’s been a holy unf**king believable week. And it’s already Palm Sunday, so we took a walk around the city to spread the message “Holy are the rights of women” from the gallery to the church.

Sometimes the gallery can be a pulpit, as powerfully curated by my friend and collaborator

Every day has been intense, and we’d like to share some of these stories with you in the coming days.

We want to thank to all these people who made it possible:

Leonardo Di Loreto .r Aina Bauza and

Without any of these people there won’t be the Holy show.

Thanks to the mother of god //

In the immensity of the beauty of Leonard St and the iconic architecture we live amongst I reflect on the way we live today since this little community grew from its feral days in the 1800’s when tribeca was called “Calk Hook”. Ciao my friends going straight to a rooftop that sits in the face of Tower 1. Crazy storm: Here we come!

Meet my friend Sheila. Sheila Schwid lives off the grid. She’s incredible because even in her nineties, this woman is turned on and keeps moving along painting the city from the inside out.

When we hung out at Westbeth, the historic artist community where she began her sojourn as a wife, raising kids, supporting the family while making her art. I saw the way this feisty woman inspires everyone who knows her because she brings the light that shines on what lies below.

Now I look forward to seeing her latest show, The Happy Warrior, installed around a playground on 99th Street, and serves as a station for Sheila’s spirit to play on.

I wondered how she does so much without an assistant. Sheila must guard her time to keep making new art, since moving around the city takes longer than usual. I saw the way her eye constructs meaning from motion. And now I know her secret for staying curious.

Hats off to my friends and sister artists in 2 by 2 Media. I admire their talent and stamina. It takes a lust to live and make art that rises above in these twilight years. Thanks to fearless, always loving for being our charismatic leader. No matter what stupid nonsense comes our way we will survive even blood on the tracks.
The thing we have in common is our warriors. Our purpose in life is to keep working together for all people to be happy and free.
