Today’s portraits are of my cousin Marina.

Part of my ongoing Family & Friends series, this session is less about creating a formal portrait and more about observing personality—quiet moments, laughter, and the expressions that appear naturally when someone forgets about the camera.

As the city settles into the night, the streets become ribbons of light, Lagoa Rodrigo de Freitas reflects the skyline, and Christ the Redeemer quietly watches over it all.

Rio de Janeiro is often celebrated for its beaches and sunshine, but after dark it reveals a different kind of beauty—one shaped by contrast, silence, and the remarkable meeting of city and mountain.

Museu do Amanhã — Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

Santiago Calatrava’s architecture always seems to blur the line between engineering and sculpture. Every angle reveals a new rhythm of light, structure, and repetition, making the building feel different with every step around it.

Photographing the Museu do Amanhã reminded me why I enjoy architectural photography so much: buildings don’t simply occupy space—they shape the way we experience it.

Black and white felt like the natural choice, allowing the geometry, texture, and light to take center stage.

Rio reveals itself differently at Parque Lage.

Beyond the historic mansion and shaded gardens, every path offers a new perspective. A rainbow caught in the fountain. Sunlight filtering through the trees. And, framed by the forest, Christ the Redeemer quietly watching over the city.

Some of Rio’s most iconic views aren’t found by looking straight at them—they’re discovered between the branches.

Every visit reminds me that the city I grew up in still has new ways to surprise me.

This is the view from my mother’s apartment—the same mountains, the same lagoon, and the same changing light that have been part of my life for as long as I can remember. Every visit brings a different sky, but the feeling of looking out these windows never changes.

Rio has a way of reminding me that no matter how far life takes us, some places will always feel like home.
