“When War Feels Close: Voices from Kuwait’s Communities” by Hussain Abbas

"What interested me wasn’t the event itself, but how it was received; how people paused, watched, and absorbed it within their everyday surroundings," writes Hussain Abbas.

“Most of the time, what unfolds in the sky is barely visible. Yet as distant events begin to feel closer, the subtle shift in atmosphere becomes unmistakable, revealing how people process such moments emotionally. In moments like this, the connections between communities become clearer. In uncertain times, it is often shared humanity that holds societies together.”

From the Kuwait Times , “When war feels close: Voices from Kuwait’s communities” by Hussain Abbas, a Frame & Focus alum.

Watch The Stringer and decide for yourself....

Our is an official selection DC DOX Festival!
Join us for a screening of "The Stringer", directed by Bao Nguyen.

When a whistleblower comes forward with a shocking admission, former conflict photographer Gary Knight and a small team of award-winning journalists embark on an intricate journey of truth-seeking. A two-year investigation uncovers a scandal behind the taking of one of the most iconic photographs of the 20th century — the “napalm girl.” A fifty-year-old narrative is upturned, and decades of secrets are unraveled in the search for justice for a man known only as “the stringer.” Within the film’s investigation, the culture of the commonplace exploitation of freelance and local journalists in war reporting is exposed.

Post-screening discussion with "The Stringer" team.

🎟️ Tickets now on sale for Sunday, June 15, 4:15 PM - 6:00 PM at the Burke Theatre at the US Navy Memorial. Visit DC DOX Festival for more information. https://dcdoxfest.com/films/the-stringer/

“It’s my job to say whether I think a movie is good or not, and let me say right now that “The Stringer” is a very good movie: rapt, urgent, absorbing.” - Variety / Owen Gleiberman
