I'd shrink everywhere to feel safe.
Wore baggy clothes.
Not say anything or say everything wrong.
Fawn all day everyday.

I can't even begin to add up the amount of money and time i've spent trying to climb out of this hiding place...
EMDR therapy, coaching, group coaching, high ticket courses, all the alternatives, art, journaling, exposure therapy, it's really a long and boring list. I at this point don’t want to think of all the things I’ve done to not feel the discomfort. 

If you have considered it there's a high chance i've tried it. 

My biggest lessonI’ve learned is that i'm not broken.

Feeling unsafe anywhere is a valid reason to hide.

I did have to peek out after the dust had settled and question, “ Is that still true?”

I'm a creative living in NYC and embarrassed to admit:

At art school I was the scholarship/financial aid kid that battled the belief that I didn’t deserve it and didn’t belong. The pressure of living here never ends. It’s all about producing and making money.

1) I rented a gallery out my senior in college to show myself if I wanted to be an artist I could make it happen.

2)I worked at a gallery and visited this artist several times. I was so scared to even ask about renting the space. I knew it was empty and it was no skin off his back. He agreed and rented it to me for $600 for a long weekend.

3) Over the previous year, I made woodcuts, shoes, drawings, paintings, photographs all representing the Chinese Zodiac. Some produced in NYC and the rest in Vietnam. I tried to make sense of my own identity as an artist and as a person who lived between two cultures.

4) I still needed to pay for room and board. I worked multiple jobs. I lived with boyfriends I shouldn't have.

5)When I got a job in shoes, it was my excuse, I never showed a piece of artwork again.

Just because I don't have my work in a gallery doesn't make me less of a creative/artist or less valuable
