Annu Palakunnathu Matthew will be speaking on her series, The Unremembered, on Friday, October 10, 2025 at 6:30pm at the Lee Miller Gallery @ Farleys House and Gallery, East Sussex, England.

Matthew’s talk is in conjunction with the exhibition, New Stories, Women in Photography, India (on through October 31st).

Within her exploration of unremembered histories, the series Sheltered: The Italians who saved the escaped Indian Prisoners of War during World War II, Matthews illuminates the inspiring history of Italian families in Abruzzo who risked their lives to shelter escaped Indian Prisoners of War during World War II, despite differences in race and language. Projecting the collected family photographs of Italian families and Indian soldiers on the walls and streets of these towns and homes animates the site of this lost history. It brings the forgotten memories into the present.

“This history becomes increasingly poignant as wars continue to rage around the globe. In an era marked by division and hostility, the bravery of these Italians underscores the potential for individuals to transcend cultural and national boundaries. This story and the research involved gives one hope in humanity.” Annu Palakunnathu Matthew, 2025

New Stories, Women in Photography, India is curated by Niyatee Shinde and Ami Bouhassane with Ziip Foundation. Additional support by David Haberstich is much appreciated.

Please join on Friday, September 26, 7:00-8:30 pm Eastern Time
For her keynote speech for the New England portfolio review online artist talk.

Annu’s immersive approach to storytelling through still and moving images creates a visual experience that fully engages the viewer.

Matthew’s photo-based work draws on old photographs to re-examine historical narratives in the US and South Asia. Though trained as a photographer, her work increasingly uses the ever expanding digital toolbox and has moved into installations. The result is a blend of still and moving imagery that shifts the viewer’s perspective to question established and marginalized histories.

• Join us online in the Griffin Zoom Room Friday night September 26th at 7pm for Ms. Matthew’s presentation, about her work, creativity and vision.

Pediconi’s video, Alien, will be featured in Milan this weekend @ the Godai Fest a multidisciplinary festival that combines music with the performing and visual arts.

It will debut in Milan on Saturday, September 20th and Sunday, September 21st, at the Parco EX Paolo Pini in Milan’s Via Ippocrate. Born from an idea by artist Rodrigo D’Erasmo, producer Daniele Tortora, and visual artist Cristiano Carotti, Godai Fest aims to break down barriers of genre and participation, connect the arts, experiment with new languages, broaden visions, and create spaces for dialogue between artists and the public on highly topical issues such as sustainability and nature.

Godai Fest is part of Milano è viva, the city-wide program that brings music, theater, workshops, meetings, and much more to all boroughs. The festival’s undisputed focus will naturally be on art in all its forms, through a journey through the four elements of human culture (Fire, Earth, Water, and Air), to which, according to Eastern philosophy, is added the principle of Emptiness. Each element will have its own curator, tasked with creating its artistic space by bringing together the artists and performers who best fit the Godai Fest project.

Serena Chopra,
“Pema Lhamo, Yeshi Dema and Pema Wangmo at the Shechen Ogyen Chodzong Nyingmpa Buddhist Nunnery. 2005 Sissna,Bhutan”

Congratulations to Aditya Arya & for their current exhibition, Touching Light, a celebration of analog Photography featuring 30 photographers and historic analog practices from the 19th century. On view until September 29, 2025.

Chopra’s high contrast, formal composition of black-and-white images, combine portraiture, revealing interiors and the teaming exteriors, reflecting the intimate stories of the inhabitants of Bhutan. Chopra’s continuing interest in documenting community spans over 12 years of work as seen in her title, “Bhutan, a Certain Modernity (Photoink, 2007)”

Today, on 🌎 Photography Day, we recognize the importance of an image to capture the beauty, complexity, and difficulty in our daily lives.

We appreciate the medium ability to convey our stories, dreams, and wishes and to communicate and document our brutal truths.

Thank you to all the practitioners who make this their life work for us to share, and to partake! ❤️

From August 3 to September 21, 2025, the halls of the Palazzo Ducale Orsini-Colonna in Tagliacozzo (AQ) will host the twelfth edition of Contemporanea, an event that has established itself in the Italian contemporary art scene for its commitment to the cultural valorization of local areas. Curated by Cesare Biasini Selvaggi, the exhibition is divided into two sections that compare the work of Concetta Baldassarre and Annu Palakunnathu Matthew, two artists from different generations, geographies, and approaches, yet united by a lucid and profound reflection on the power of art as a tool for preserving, revealing, and reinterpreting history.

Special thanks to MT /
Maria Teresa Capacchione, Cesare Biasini & Emanuele Moretti for this extraordinary opportunity.

Congratulations to Annu, who continues to delve into our past and create contemporary spaces where we can expand our knowledge and celebrate our connections.

Yesterday, I read the Times’ posting on the life of Vicki Goldberg. I had been thinking about Vicki over the last week, and reading of her passing made me recall the impact this one woman had on the field of photography and me. With her associate, Margaret Loke, these two women formed a formidable team, reviewing photography exhibitions for the Times with intelligence, humor, and considerable support. As a woman gallerist, I welcomed their visits, conversations, input, and sincere connection.

After meeting Vicki in 1998 at a conference, she kindly covered the opening of Sepia International & the Alkazi Collection with a two-page, front-page “welcome” review of our first show, RE-Orientations. This review, and the numerous others she wrote of our exhibitions over the years, were not just critiques, but also reflections of her deep understanding and appreciation of our work. Her reviews were a testament to her support and encouragement, which continued with the opening of sepiaEYE, where we collaborated on two books together: Jungjin Lee’s Wind (Aperture/sepiaEYE, 2009) and Annu Palakunnathu Matthew’s Memories of India(Blue Sky, 2014).

Vicki’s impact on the field of photography is profound and will be felt for a long time to come. Her eloquent descriptions of Annu’s photographs underscore her profound influence and the enduring significance of her work.

Pamela Singh & Annu Palakunnathu Matthew are included in BE-LONGING, An Exhibition of the Mercedes Benz Art Collection in Mexico City
30.05-31.08.25
Espacio CDMX, Mexico City, Mexico

Curated by Polina Stroganova,
the exhibition of the brings together selected works from the Mercedes-Benz Art Collection and contemporary artists living and working in Mexico. The show marks the launch of a new series of dialogue-driven, international exhibitions of the Mercedes-Benz Art Collection designed to engage with local artistic practices. Through a dynamic and modular approach, this initiative aims to reach a broad international audience while fostering collaborations between Mercedes-Benz employees, different communities as well as diverse artistic networks in key international locations—Mexico City being the first.

BE-LONGING explores the theme of identity, a subject deeply embedded in contemporary artistic discourse
and continuously negotiated within society at large. Featuring works by 32 international artists, the exhibition is structured around four interwoven conceptual axes approaching culturally relevant themes such as bodies, origins, territories and memories. These thematic strands allow for multiple interpretations and perspectives on identity emphasising the concepts of fluidity, dialogue, and the interplay between different approaches.
