Hannah [On dance]:
“As a dancer, where your job is dependent on your body, it has been challenging/bewildering to navigate what my body can do, as it changes each day. I've found that there is also very little concrete, specific information about what is/is not safe during pregnancy for dancers, other than "listen to your body" and "if you did it pre-pregnancy, it's ok during pregnancy." But this leaves a lot of room for trying to navigate what feels safe for you and your baby!
To find a new place for these nine months in a field that is largely unfamiliar with pregnant dancers has been an interesting journey. I've been so fortunate to dance for a supportive company and director who allowed me to perform at 29 weeks pregnant, but also recognize this is not the norm, or even something that would feel safe or possible for all pregnant dancers.
At a certain point, I realized there is no use fighting for a version of your body's abilities that you cannot have right now. I could choose to be discouraged or compare my abilities to my former self, or more commonly, the other dancers in the studio around me. But it's been much better for me to view the experience of dancing pregnant as an adventure living and dancing in a body you've never experienced before and figuring out how to make that work—with the joy of knowing your little baby is along for the ride!”

“My husband Tommy has really helped me to see that there can be a path as both a mother and a dancer, which has made me much more confident in embarking on this journey. To have that support makes me more confident that it will be possible to merge both of what I believe my callings are, as a dancer and as a mother..I have fears about parenthood changing our relationship in ways I don't expect. But in the same way you take a leap into marriage without knowing all that it holds, you take a similar leap into parenthood too. And if God has been so faithful to us in the first leap, why not the second, as we seek to honor him and actively work on our relationship with each other? Things that strain your muscles often make you stronger in the end - and I'm sure parenthood will strain us in many ways, but I see no reason why those can't make our relationship stronger than we thought possible in the end.”

Simply put, I want elevate Motherhood and Marriage through this medium. It’s a major change and transition which will come with many emotions and sacrifice, but also much joy and celebration.
