Known as “The Buccaneer Coast”, Captiva and Sanibel Island attracted the notorious Jose Gaspar to the region in the early 1800s, where it was rumored that he buried his stolen treasure on Sanibel, and then built a prison on “Isle de los Captivas,” or Captiva Island, where he kept his female prisoners “captive” for ransom. 🏝️🌅☀️🌊🏴‍☠️⚓️

They’re not called tyrannus tyrannus for fun! The Eastern Kingbird is a vicious bully, aggressively defending their nests and territory. They are known to attack and chase much larger birds, like crows and hawks. They are also a great form of pest control, eating flies, mosquitoes, and wasps.
