There's no earthly way of knowing
Which direction we are going
There's no knowing where we're rowing
Or which way the river's flowing.."

I'm a big ball of anxiety today. Well, I have been, so it's not new, but it's at peak levels today. Anyone else? I thought I would attempt to distract by sharing a recent photo I took while out walking my dog. This section of the WRVT is a favorite of mine these days.

Let's get through this & find ways to celebrate what it means to be proud & united as a country 🇺🇸

Sending you all a big hug.

Can we take a minute to talk about this October? It's been a stunner. One of the best autumn's in recent memory. I haven't gotten out too much with my camera, but I did lug it along on a recent outing while walking the dog.

Cheers!

Yesterday I had the pleasure of volunteering for an actual event at Mohonk Preserve. They hosted their 1st (& hopefully not last) Plein Air Art Walk along their newest trailhead at the Testimonial Gatehouse. It was a gorgeous fall day for such a wonderful event.

I've been working from home for 29 weeks now & have few reasons to get out & interact with actual people. It was great to see so many people out & about with their families enjoying our local area & the work of the participating artists. I really appreciated how many people wore masks & made efforts to maintain a reasonable social distance.

There is an auction of the artists' work. If you'd like to learn more, see the artwork, or make a bid, please check out the link from the Preserve. The auction ends tomorrow, so don't delay if you're interested! - https://e.givesmart.com/events/iUN/

I started to get into photography for a very simple reason. I wanted to take great vacation photos. I wanted to take the kind of photo that you could look back at & remember the feeling of standing there in that moment. This photo feels like I did just that. I'm so pleased with it.

I love this photo so much I shared it directly on my personal page 1st. A friend helped me put into words why I connect with this photo so deeply - it's not just a photo, it's a feeling. This photo is a perfect snapshot of time that I will always connect with that delightful morning on Eagle Lake while on vacation in Acadia Nat'l Park.

Rock stacking or creating your own cairns is a major breach of outdoor recreation etiquette. Moving rocks in this manner can lead to displacement of natural habitat & cause erosion. Some cairns can also be confusing to other hikers that rely on cairns to guide them on the right trail. It also is in direct opposition of Leave No Trace principles.

That said, while I do not participant in this kind of activity, I did find this tiny stack of rocks rather had a photographic quality that I couldn't pass up. Hopefully this post will help educate at least 1 person who didn't realize rock stacking is an issue with consequences for the microenvironment & that will help spread this knowledge.

Following sunrise along Ocean Path, we hiked Gorham Mtn for the 1st time. We only saw 3 other hikers out, reaffirming why we like to go early.

I booked our annual vacation in January this year before Covid was a known issue in the states. We were fortunate enough to have been able to keep our plans intact & enjoy the privilege of taking a vacation despite the mess we're currently in. We just got back from a week in Acadia National Park. It was even more spectacular than our 1st visit.

From our 1st full day, sunrise along Ocean Path. Sand Beach to the northeast, Otter Cliffs to the southeast.

Thanks for looking.

In the never ending task of cleaning up old files, it's the time of year when I do just that.

I took these fun photos of the trolley in Kingston on a summer afternoon last year while I was waiting on the Kalmar Nyckel to sail past. The group of people along the rail trail were from out of town & I loved their enthusiasm at seeing the trolley go by.

Looking at these photos now makes me feel a bit forlorn at all that we've lost this year due to covid. I know I'm not alone when I say I hope that 2021 is better for all of us in that regard.

Hope you're all staying safe & healthy!
