The Park View Historic Hotel was built in 1884. According to their website, it was built to accommodate people coming to town for the World International and Cotton Exposition, which was the World’s Fair centennial for cotton. Also known as “World Cotton Centennial,” it commemorated the earliestnsurviving record of a shipment of cotton from the U.S. to England in 1784. At the time, nearly a third of all cotton production in the United States was handled in New Orleans.
