My life partner has been doing what he
loves best for the past ten years! Ten years? My God how time flies! Congratulations Charlie!
Please join us in celebrating the tenth anniversary of WWOZ's Video Department! Starting in August of 2014, we've covered thousands of events and performances in New Orleans and around the country, under the leadership of our video director Charlie Steiner.
Over ten years the team has worked countless hours creating award-winning streaming videos. This has included live streaming coverage of the Crescent City Blues and BBQ Festival, the Congo Square Rhythms Festival, hundreds of Jazz & Heritage concerts, and hundreds more performances from our studios. We've also filmed interviews, conferences, second lines and Mardi Gras parades, and extensive oral histories with musical and cultural elders. And we've created long and short-form documentaries on New Orleans musicians and cultural history.
During Covid the team didn't slow down -- they kept New Orleans musicians in front of the world, with a series of streamed live performances filmed in empty venues, including virtual Piano Night and Groove Gala events, and a series of holiday concerts inside the empty St Louis Cathedral and St Augustine Church.
The work of Charlie and his team has allowed WWOZ to bring small intimate performances in our hometown to a global audience of literally millions, with over eight million individual views, fulfilling our mission of bringing New Orleans music and culture to the world.
Congratulations, Charlie and WWOZ -- and stay tuned for even more great videos in the future!
