Tulip Glow Up
A yearly tradition in our family is heading over to the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum in the spring for the tulip blooms. One of my favorite parts of this tradition is trying to find a photo which is different from all the others I’ve taken over the years. It’s not always easy to find it, especially since we always seem to go on the sunniest of days. This one, though, stood out to me. It stopped me in my tracks and I only needed a few shutter clicks to get one I liked. Another successful year.

Spring butterflies.
After a pretty long absence that started with the invasion of Minneapolis, I’m finally back to taking photos. One of my first outings this spring was at the Butterfly House at the Dow Gardens in Midland MI. It was a great opportunity to photograph some elusive varieties of butterflies we don’t see out in the wild that often.
It’s taken a while to get that artistic spirit back after taking a break in January, but the itch is back. I look forward to sharing more springtime photos in the near future.

Got myself some new (repurposed) threads! I’ve been pretty quiet on here lately as my hometown has been all over the news lately, you might have heard something. I’ve been too preoccupied helping out my community in the small ways I can to go photographing lately, and honestly too worried for my fellow neighbor to feel inspired. I’d like to get back to it soon, the itch is returning, but until then I’m gunna keep my eye out for my community.

Huge shout out to for printing these out for me today. They’re running a free printing pop up this weekend to add some awesome designs to your textiles. Be sure to check them out!

FAA Bans Drone Flights Near DHS and ICE Facilities And Vehicles, Could Impose Criminal Charges

As of January 2026, the FAA has implemented a nationwide drone restriction tied to DHS and ICE operations.

🛑 What this means:
• No drones allowed within 3,000 feet horizontally
• And 1,000 feet vertically
• Of ICE / DHS facilities AND mobile assets

🚔 Yes — this includes moving ground vehicle convoys, meaning the restricted airspace can move in real time and applies 24/7 nationwide.

🎥 Filming ICE operations with a drone can now result in: • Drone seizure • Civil fines • Criminal charges • Loss of FAA flying privileges

⚠️ The FAA classifies this as national defense airspace under a Special Security Instruction (NOTAM). Locations of mobile assets are not publicly disclosed, making accidental violations possible.

📌 Important:
This is not a blanket ban on all drone flights — but if DHS or ICE assets are nearby, the restriction applies automatically.

📣 If you fly drones, share this post.
Staying informed could save you from serious penalties.

A freighter in the haze.
The Algoma Niagara makes its way down the St. Mary's river on its way back from Duluth MN. When the light works right, it just works. This morning was some of the most intriguing light I'd ever played with.

Iced Berries
To wrap up this year of photos I present to you "Iced Berries". I thought this photo was an appropriate shot for this time of year, nestled between Christmas and New Years. It reminds me of the feeling this time of year brings, a bit chilly but still beautiful. Hope 2026 brings just as many photo opportunities as years past.

Frozen trees
South Michigan was treated to an ice storm a few days ago, and while trees were dropping branches and the power was out for a day and a half, I went out with the camera to capture the fleeting beauty. The tree tops were covered in a layer of ice and icicles giving them a wonderful glow.

Shadow of the Empire.
When you're on top of the Empire State Building you can't really get a shot of the iconic building, but if its sunny out and you look hard enough you might just be able to see it's outline in the shadow falling on the neighboring buildings. Can you see it?
