10/23/26 Derby, CT - Heavy smoke could be seen for miles with reports of people trapped as companies responded confirming members fears. This dwelling had been on the fire department's high hazard list due to it being built on an extremely steep slope making access to three sides very difficult. Companies arrived to find heavy fire involving the rear porches and rooms on multiple floors. A second alarm was transmitted bringing companies from throughout the valley region. Firefighters attempted an interior attacked but were withdrawn due to advanced fire conditions within the dwelling. Members were tasked with stretching multiple hand lines down the steep terrain to begin darkening down the heavy fire. A tower ladder and aerial were put into service as well. The fire had gained a deep seat within the dwelling prompting firefighters to cut holes in the floors and employ piercing and cellar nozzle to gain a hold on the fire. It took about two and a half hours to bring the fire under control. No one was injured in the fire and the cause is being investigated by the fire marshal's office.

Back in the day whenever firefighters heard a Henry box transmitted, they knew they would be going to work. There were many vacant dwellings in the city's East End and arsonists usually took care of them,
Bridgeport 33 6th St. vacant dwelling fire
07/14/1994 Bridgeport, CT Henry 1 Assignment - Battalion 2 arrived reporting heavy fire in the rear of a large, vacant wood frame. He also reported exposures on on all three sides. The number four side quickly caught fire due to windy conditions that night with fire in the third floor and attic. Due to the heavy fire conditions and wind two additional engines were special called for brand patrol. An interior attack was attempted, but interior fire conditions warranted an exterior operation. The fire took about an hour and a half to bring under control.

It quickly extended in to the third floor and cockloft of this residential over commercial building. Companies eventually went exterior and used the tower ladder to knock the fire down. An additional two trucks and an engine were special called to the scene. The fire took about an hour to bring under control
