Where do I even begin…
As a mother myself, this has been weighing heavily on my heart.
Our children are being targeted, exploited, and robbed of their innocence, and the reality of what AI is now capable of makes this feel more real than ever.
If you haven’t already seen it, the 7th Circuit Court of Appeals recently ruled that the private possession of certain AI-generated child sexual abuse material involving fictional children is protected by the First Amendment.
AI imagery doesn’t exist in a vacuum. It is built from images created by and of real people. And as AI continues to advance at an incredible rate, what it can do today is not necessarily what it will be capable of tomorrow.
That is enough for me to say that I will not be a part of the problem.
Moving forward, I will no longer be sharing identifiable images of children on my photography page, signed release or not. I will also be going back in the next couple of weeks through my previous posts and removing or covering the faces of children who have previously been shared.
I know many of you have trusted me with permission to share your children’s images, and I am incredibly grateful for that trust. But as a mom, I cannot ignore the responsibility I feel to protect these children in every way that I can.
I love every single child I have had the privilege of photographing. I haven’t publicly shared my own children in over a year, and I no longer feel comfortable sharing the beautiful kiddos who come in front of my camera either.
This does not change anything about your sessions moving forward. I will still be photographing families, and I will still be capturing all of those little moments that make your babies who they are. You may just see a few more detail shots of their sweet hands, baby hair, tiny toes, and all the little things that are so fleeting.
The safety of children and my clients will always come before my business.
I may not be able to control what happens with these images once they are out in the world, but I can control what I choose to put into it.
And for me, protecting these children is worth more than a post, a like, or a beautiful image on my feed. 🤍
