✨ 📸 When Harmon announced their new 35mm color film I immediately bought a roll, excited to support any company bringing new emulsions to the market. I sat back and let everyone share their first attempts, and it became clear immediately that the film had a very narrow latitude for exposure, and seemed to perform best in even lighting ... so of course I decided to shoot my first roll at golden hour in extreme contrast 😅
Final Judgements?
I like it! I think a lot of the problems people have experienced are from the lab scanners going for efficiency and not really fine tuning. I scan at home, and after a lot of trial and error, it really does do better with a black and white film profile since it doesn't have the characteristically orange mask. I found Ferrania FG profiles to be pretty accurate, and when selecting from those, instead of color calibrations, I found I retained MUCH more shadow detail.
