Black-throated Sparrow

Bokeh
Bokeh is defined as “the effect of a soft out-of-focus background that you get when shooting a subject, using a fast lens, at the widest aperture, such as f/2.8 or wider.” Simply put, bokeh is the pleasing or aesthetic quality of out-of-focus blur in a photograph.

Backlighting
Backlighting refers to light that comes from behind the subject. In other words, backlighting hits the back of the subject and shines directly into the camera lens.

I don’t look for this, nor do I claim to be good at it. When done correctly it can look amazing. So when the opportunity to photograph your favorite sparrow and combine the elements above, well why not give it a shot!!

Common Loon

While In the Houston area last weekend, I stopped by the Texas City D**e to take a look around. I left in December of 2019, so Its been a while since I last visited. As always the place never disappoints. I was able to observe about 5 loons feeding that morning. I really liked this one with the silhouette of a ship passing by in the background.
