One swing. Four moments.

Using a high-frame-rate burst, I captured this golfer at several key points through her swing, then combined the individual frames into a single composite image.

I enjoy this kind of photography because it goes beyond freezing a single instant. A sequence like this shows the **motion, balance, timing, and follow-through** that normally pass in a fraction of a second.

The final image is a blend of sports photography and digital compositing—turning a brief moment of action into a visual study of the entire swing.

A couple of images from the PPA of PA Capture 2026 workshop in Harrisburg this past July.

One of the things I enjoyed about this session was the opportunity to work with our model in several very different settings around the city. These two photographs were made only a short distance apart, but they have very different feels.

In the first, I concentrated on a closer, more relaxed portrait, using the subdued background and shallow depth of field to keep the attention on her expression. For the second, the stairway and sweeping railing provided strong leading lines and a very different perspective, allowing the surrounding urban architecture to become an important part of the composition.

Workshops like this are a good reminder that portrait photography isn't only about the person in front of the camera. Light, environment, perspective, posing, wardrobe, and composition all come together to create the final image.

Thanks to PPA of PA for organizing another excellent opportunity to photograph, experiment, and learn alongside other photographers.

After having some time to carefully retouch and refine these images, I wanted to share two of my favorite Milky Way photographs from my recent night at Cherry Springs State Park.

Cherry Springs is one of Pennsylvania’s true dark-sky treasures, and once the clouds cleared that evening, the sky opened into a remarkable view of the Milky Way. These images are the result of preparation, practice, patience, and a fair amount of post-processing work to bring out what the camera was able to capture in that dark sky.

The first image gives a closer, more intimate view of the Milky Way stretching above the tree line. The second is a wider panoramic view showing the sweep of the galaxy across the night sky.

For me, astrophotography is both technical and personal. It requires planning, careful exposure, field technique, and detailed editing — but it also reconnects me with memories of seeing dark skies as a child in Kansas. Nights like this remind me why I continue to pursue photography not only for clients, but also for the personal work that sharpens my eye and expands my skills.

Cherry Springs gave me an outstanding night under the stars, and these are two of the best images I brought home.

Last night I photographed the Milky Way at Cherry Springs State Park, one of Pennsylvania’s premier dark-sky locations.

The evening started with clouds, but around 11 p.m. the sky opened up beautifully. Once the clouds cleared, the quality of the night sky at Cherry Springs was remarkable — a dramatic contrast to practicing at home in Nazareth, where light pollution makes deep night-sky work much more difficult.

That practice last week still paid off. Working through the setup, focusing, exposure settings, lens choice, and processing ahead of time helped me make better use of the clear sky when it finally appeared.

Last week I had the opportunity to attend MARS (Mid-Atlantic Regional School of Professional Photography) and study compositing with internationally recognized artist and educator Richard Sturdevant.

This image is Richard’s class of students after an intensive week of learning advanced compositing, visual storytelling, lighting integration, and creative problem solving. Programs like MARS are a reminder that professional photography is a continual process of education, experimentation, and growth.

I appreciate the opportunity to learn alongside so many talented photographers from across the country and look forward to applying these concepts in future work through RSB Photo Media.

This week I had the pleasure of photographing the health programs at Phoebe Berks in Wernersville, Pennsylvania, and seeing firsthand the energy, encouragement, and community that make these programs so meaningful.

On the same beautiful early spring day, I was also able to capture aerial photography and videography of the Phoebe Berks campus. With the grounds beginning to come alive in spring, it was a wonderful time to show both the people and the place that help make this community special.

Great people, a beautiful vision, a wonderful facility, and a long-awaited spring day—what could be better for a professional photographer?

Later this month, I will be photographing similar programs and environments at three additional Phoebe Ministries facilities, and I look forward to continuing to tell that story through images.
