In this series of images, “Coastal Correspondence”, I explore the relationship between the people of Navarre, Florida, and the objects that represent them. Arranged in a typology, the objects transform from everyday roadside objects to monuments of personal and environmental identity. Living on the coast, I often drive by these sentinels too quickly to appreciate them. Landmarks of both distance and time’s passage, they are shaped not only by their owners’ personalities but by nature itself.
My approach here is to be as consistent as possible, aiming to take the images in similar lighting, from a similar distance, and from a similar position. By representing them as a grid instead of a series of photographs, my intent is to rid them of their mundane function and show them as a collective work of art curated by my community, inviting the viewer to inspect each one in detail. It’s this form that best invites the user to see the details and changes in each one, allowing their eyes to go back and forth between them.
This body of work is dedicated to the people who make this place feel like home for so many of us locals. It’s a conversation that defines Florida’s defiance in the face of nature’s corrosive beauty. It’s a self-portrait in a way, a beautifully quiet coastal correspondence.

Merry Christmas to all of you that follow this page. Many of you might wonder where I've been. I've been going back to school and it's taking up a lot of my time. Do I still shoot? I actually shoot more than I ever have I just don't have much time to post. Here's an image I shot as part of a school project. Completely unedited. This is straight out of camera.

I went out on Saturday to shoot for a class project. As I waited for the comet to drop into view on the horizon I was playing with compositions and landed on this one that I really enjoyed. It's a unique perspective for a landscape shot at almost 300mm and ended up being one of my favorite shots I've ever taken of Portofino Towers. I love the way the light reflected off of the water in the foreground, seeming to almost glow against the darkening sand, and how the towers rise up off of the beach, reaching into the empty skies above.

You wanna know what comet A3 Tsuchinshan-ATLAS has in common with cats and dogs? They all chase their tail. Despite what it seems, the comet is actually traveling in the same direction as the tail is facing. The tail isn't caused by the comet's path but rather the off-gassing of being warmed by the sun.

This photo was taken at a cool 200mm. 6 second exposure with no tracker... because it broke 😢. Still a really cool image though! 👍🏻

The chill of the pre-dawn air whipped through me as I stood beside my dad in our Mississippi driveway. It was 1995, and I was eight years old. Above us, Comet Hale-Bopp blazed across the sky, a spectacle of white, blue, and purple streaks that seemed to dance and shimmer like tassels caught in a celestial wind. The awe of that moment has stayed with me all my life.

Today, that childlike wonder returned as I gazed at Comet A3, a visitor from the depths of the cosmos, unseen for 80,000 years and likely never to grace our solar system again. Lost in the moment, I felt an unexpected connection to this icy wanderer, a fleeting sense of shared existence with something so ancient and vast. I couldn't help but wonder if, in some way, the comet felt it too.

My first crack at taking a photo of Andromeda Galaxy. My tracker died only a third of the way into the session so I'll have to wait to hear back from Ioptron to see if I can get some replacement parts. Overall I'm happy with the results and look forward to learning more about deep sky astrophotography.

Coming soon to a sky near you! Comet A3 is set to reemerge in the skies of the northern hemisphere starting on Saturday, Oct 12th. Look near the horizon in the west just after sunset to see this ever-growing spectacle.
