The first and most important edit to make on every single photo?

EXPOSURE!!

If you said WHITE BALANCE, hear me out ….

The white balance is the thing that is going to help bring back what your eye really saw in real life but it’s nearly impossible to get right if you don’t first correct the exposure.

That’s why the number 1 thing I always fix is the exposure and THEN I immediately go for the white balance.

Kind of a trick question, I’ll admit, because the white balance is v v important too.

But exposure always comes first.

Next time you find yourself having a hard time getting the color right, make sure you’ve nailed the exposure.

That, or use my presets, which are already designed for all the lighting scenarios you’re shooting in 😘 Just say “ALWAYS SUMMER” and I’ll send em your way!!

I seriously couldn’t make it through a single week without my favorite app for keeping my content organized and best of all... it’s FREE.

With Asana, you can quickly lay out your content map for the month and save all your ideas in one space.

Go ahead and hit 🛟 SAVE on this post, because you’re going to want to come back to this time saving method of content planning + idea storage.

I try to rotate through each of my content pillars each week (not sure what your content pillars are? Say PILLARS for a free worksheet!)

To keep myself organized, I like to keep a running list of topic ideas in the Boards section of Asana, which allows me to create a “Board” (looks like a list) for each of my content buckets, which I can drop ideas in as I come up with them.

Then, when it’s time to pick a topic for each day of the week, it’s as simple as scheduling that topic on my calendar.

For example, some of my topics for my content tips & tricks bucket this might be are:

3 Content Creation Tools Every Entrepreneur Needs
How to use Asana to simplify content creation

I write the captions in the “description” section of each of the tasks on my calendar, which keeps me organized and because I can access the Asana app on my phone, when it’s time to post, I just have to copy the caption and paste it on social media.

This method keeps all my ideas in one place, so when it’s time to map my content for the month, this is what I pull from!!

Ever notice how when you take a video or photo with your phone it almost always seems darker than it did in person with duller colors?

That’s because your phone tries to expose for the brightest area of the photo. Read on for how I correct this!

I edit every photo + video in the free version of Lightroom Mobile using the same 5 steps:

1. Exposure : expose the brightness image up or down (usually up!)

2. White balance : once the exposure is correct, white balance is easier to fix! Warm it up (slide to yellow) or cool it down (slide to blue) until it looks like what you really saw!

3. Highlights + Shadows : correct for super bright or super dark areas of the photo using these sliders

4. Contrast : bring back any contrast you lost while fixing the highlights & shadows using this slider!

5. Vibrance : a more natural boost to color than saturation!

Saturation vs Vibrance

Both impact the intensity of color in your images but vibrance does it in a more natural way. Because vibrance can detect skin tones and is more focused on those tones in your image, it protects your colors from becoming over saturated.
