Your dog belongs in your newborn session.
Not in a ‘we can try if you want’ kind of way. In a ‘please, yes, include the dog’ kind of way.
For a lot of families, that dog was the first baby. And when I show up to document your first weeks at home with a newborn, your pup is part of that story.
I had one session this spring where the family’s dog was put away when I arrived - reactive dog, and they weren’t sure how it would go or how I’d feel about it.
We waited until the room had settled into something calm and easy, then let him out.
He smelled me. Jumped on me a little (completely fine). Figured out I was boring. And then he was just... in. By the end of the session he was trying to get into every single frame.
Reactive dogs, nervous dogs, big dogs, little dogs - when the environment feels normal and the session doesn’t feel like an event, they usually settle.
That’s the whole reason in-home sessions work as well as they do.
