Your dog belongs in your newborn session.

Not in a ‘we can try if you want’ kind of way. In a ‘please, yes, include the dog’ kind of way.

For a lot of families, that dog was the first baby. And when I show up to document your first weeks at home with a newborn, your pup is part of that story.

I had one session this spring where the family’s dog was put away when I arrived - reactive dog, and they weren’t sure how it would go or how I’d feel about it.

We waited until the room had settled into something calm and easy, then let him out.

He smelled me. Jumped on me a little (completely fine). Figured out I was boring. And then he was just... in. By the end of the session he was trying to get into every single frame.

Reactive dogs, nervous dogs, big dogs, little dogs - when the environment feels normal and the session doesn’t feel like an event, they usually settle.

That’s the whole reason in-home sessions work as well as they do.

If you think you can’t have newborn photos because you live in an apartment, I’m here to tell you otherwise! Apartments almost always have big windows with beautiful light. For this session, we took photos in the living room and bedroom, and then walked around the couple’s favorite spots in Germantown 🤩

So many of the couples I photograph work in healthcare here in Nashville- which often means they’re just here during residency or working towards their dream home. Your baby will only be this little once- make sure you capture them while they’re still new in the place you bring them home to ❤️

Instagram is great for showing the highlights, but I wanted to share a full in-home newborn gallery from start to finish! Sessions last 1–1.5 hours and we’ll usually hop between the living room, nursery (if you’ve got one), a bedroom, and outside.

One of the best parts about in-home newborn sessions is how relaxed they feel. No packing up your baby, no rushing out the door, and plenty of time for feeding, diaper changes, and snuggles along the way. Your home becomes part of the story, which always makes these images feel extra meaningful years later.
