I needed her to go with me that night to go test shoot a different location, but man, it was good for both of our souls, as you can tell from the giggling and playfulness. I hope you can see along the way all of the beautiful angles for photos and the way the light hits at golden hour. I always release booking links to my email list first because I want to make sure people actually see it. Social media only shows to a small percentage of people, while I consistently have an email open rate of over 78%. (Google says average for a business is 21-35%, so I feel like that’s pretty awesome!) I want to make sure my loyal people get the info since y’all have been so kind to me and I like you. 🙂

If you don’t know what email I’m talking about, I have a newsletter list. Searched my history, and I have only sent 3 messages this year. Last year, I sent around 10 total. I don’t pester you or fill up your inbox. It’s literally just a means of communicating what I’m up to and what’s coming up because social media is so hit or miss.

It’s hilarious that she even asked if I was taking a picture because that’s literally what we were there to do. Dressing up and getting her hair curled on a weeknight was such a fun surprise for her. She loved the one-on-one Mom time.

Behind the scenes prep— I usually have two props prepared for newborns (wire or woven baskets, crates, etc) because this creates a nice variety. Clients fill out a questionnaire with preferences in advance, and then I show my prepped ideas when they arrive. 99% of the time they love my choices and stick with them!

My family went camping a couple weekends ago, and as I had them posing in front of a scenic spot, one of my kids commented that I’m never in the photos. I actually disagree (my job kind of makes me super aware of it), but it was interesting that that was his perception. Makes me think I need to be more intentional about that.

Maybe you need a reminder to get in front of the camera with your babies. It’s easy to always be the family photographer. There are so many reasons we might put it off. Our kids are watching, though. Let’s love ourselves and show that we were there, too.

I had my daughter come to the studio for some updated portraits, so I grabbed my remote clicker and took some of us together. This is my favorite. ❤️

I saw a post yesterday about how we will gain a lot more daytime sunlight in the next month. Just checked— 4:49pm sunset today, but 5:20pm a month from now in middle TN. Not sure I’d call that a lot… but there’s something about more light that is so hopeful, you know? I’m here for the post-5pm sunsets. 🙌🏼

Santa is coming to town!!! This year’s date is November 8. We would love to see your kids, look over wishlists, and answer burning questions about the North Pole. I’m not the expert on that part, but I know who is. 😉 He is the real deal.
