Speaking in the City + NYC Restaurant Favorites

A city that can make me feel small while some of my largest dreams continue to occur is a city that has a direct line to my soul. This is New York City for me. My heart dances a little louder here. This is not a gentle place, it is direct, owes you nothing but when you continue to show up for it - i

Healing Truth's | A Gentle Roar

Time machines are real. They come in the form of simple little words strung together that can remove us from our current reality and transport us back to the past in a matter of seconds. It can be a song that takes us back to a loved one or unexpected words that trigger a shadow from the past. These

Welcome to Nashville: Alyssa Rosenheck's Must See Spots For Music City Visitors

I recently caught up on some trash tv (yes, I can grow roots on the couch with the best of them) to see an infamous group of Jersey house wives grace Music City. However, I was disappointed and found myself yelling at the TV - “This isn’t Nashville”, “Who picked these places”, “The produ...

Amangiri For First Timers

A connection to the land around you is a return to self. This is evident through every architectural line directing our eyes to a breathtaking view and reminding us that nature's wonders ignite our inherent gifts. I have never felt more creative and intuitive in an environment before. I turned forty

Creative Postpartum® By Alyssa Rosenheck

Last year, I coined a phrase: “Creative Postpartum”. What is it? This is a period beginning immediately after a dream achieved, a goal reached that required a significant amount of time, sacrifice and care. The result of crossing the finish line is a lengthy period of sadness as a result of the ...

Happy Book Birthday!!! The New Southern Turns ONE with White's Mercantile

When my book baby turns ONE , we throw a birthday party for The New Southern Style !!! Why? Because, it was a labor of love with a timeless message. Writing your first book is no small feat. There were moments I thought I wasn't going to cross the finish line. There were times I wanted to gi

Who Runs the World...Women Who Dream

Courage is the ability to connect with another human and share our truth. I discuss this in the book and live it weekly on socials.  If we take a step back and evaluate our lives, it is in the moments of connection that yield the keys forward, unlocking healing, learning, growth, resources,

Culinary immersion with Alyssa Rosenheck, Maneet Chauhan, and The Bitter Southerner

Heritage is often tied to our culinary traditions. We love and learn through food. I remember growing up in the kitchen with my mom. It became less about what she was cooking and more about the stories that traveled with family recipes. This is where I learned and took pride in my Jewish and Italian

My Cancer-versary is today and this image represents existing in both the light and the shadows. I go into all this in section one of my book (I encourage you all to read it), but I want to discuss how having had cancer still applies to me in this current moment.

My life is filled with teachers and mirrors. It hasn’t been easy and embodies twists, turns and growth. My unrecovered alcoholic father indirectly taught me to be my own healer, leader and warrior. Having personal experiences with the K*K and people wanting to see me in pain for simply being a Jew in this world has taught me to use my gifts to better the world around me despite those who seek to divide. Having cancer taught me to surrender control and to have faith that I will be okay regardless of the outcome. Creativity was the result of my cancer journey and it taught me to connect to myself, community and have the courage to share my truth with strangers.

One would think that cancer was the shadow that gave my light interest but it is the other way around. Cancer was the gift that gave me so much more than it took away. It provided me with hope during a time that felt hopeless and it gave me the courage to start living my life rather than existing. I think we need to feel more around us and take stock in the moments that make our hearts hurt to break us open to rebuild better communities for ourselves and others. We don’t need cancer to do this we just need eachother. I love you all so much and thank you with all of my heart for sharing this journey with me. To all those fighting the good fight - my angels are with you.
