June 12, 2016 vs June 12, 2017.

I’ve had these photos tucked into my archives for quite some time, never really knowing when would be an appropriate time to post or share this experience.

Life was bleak for weeks on Harding Street, as neighbors of the nightclub were quarantined while federal agencies ran their investigations. I’ll never forget the constant sound of helicopters throughout the day and night. It was a reminder that we had (and still have) a lot to learn from what happened. At the time I didn’t know how to cope with survivor’s guilt other than to document the events with photos, when just that morning we were giving out water and trying to comfort survivors on the street. I couldn’t help but feel that my presence was invasive because I didn’t know how to help - so I kept a safe distance through my lens. 5 years later, I know more than I did then, but still wish I could have done more…

The colored film photos are from a year later, and the beautiful community of Orlando united to honor and memorialize the 49 victims who just wanted to dance. It was beautiful witness the love and resilience that can come even after such an awful act of hatred. Love is love is love is love is love. It is unconditional and unapologetic. It will always prevail!

We will not let hate win. One pulse. One love. One Orlando 🌈

Hard to believe that one year ago today I was exploring Croatia with .withlove! Crazy how time flies, and how much can change in a year. Even though we’ve all been told to stay put, it’s still amazing to witness the wonders this world has to offer 😍 and that you can create that magic wherever you go! ✨

May 30, 2020 - “I Will Breathe” Rally held in Downtown Nashville, TN.

This event was a lot to input. In the past I have attended protests, but this was the first time I had felt uneasy and afraid. Afraid of what? I then realized I had never been to a rally AGAINST police, let alone police brutality. Although every intention was to be peaceful, I was afraid the rally would be met with clash of aggression and anger, and not from the protesters, but from the very people who are supposed to protect the public. And even more, that apprehension I was having, the feeling of not belonging, of not feeling safe - that is the feeling that black Americans face and feel today and EVERYDAY.

I have been processing these photos for the last few days. I recognize that I have some personal double standards to work through myself, but I realize these double standards have developed through a poisonous narrative that I had bought into - a narrative that tells us if we don’t know what it’s like, we can’t speak on it. Well, I say out with that. Because we need friends, we need allies and we need to educate our loved ones to amplify the unheard voices, if we want to progress as a society. We must use our voices, our vote and our art to stop the silence and stand in the gap. We must come together.

I am here. I am listening. I am observing and I am ready to do the work. @ Nashville, Tennessee

Last week when arriving to Stockholm, I went out for a walk around the hotel to scope the area. Little did I know I would run into some BADASS sk8r babes out for an evening stroll on the smooth concrete near the arena. Despite the cold temperatures, these women were so warm and friendly, and after our conversation invited me to a roller derby crash course and scrimmage! I am so grateful for the experience, and hoped to capture some snaps of joy throughout our time together. I’d have to say it was a successful and super fun evening! Thanks again to and for allowing me to tag along for the ride 🤗💕
