Let me just get the hard truth over with: it could not have rained more on this day and if it looks like we were trapped in a bubble much of the time, it’s because we were trapped in a bubble much of the time.

That being said, there is simply not enough rain in the world to ever get to these two, they carry joy deep down in their beings which sloshes over the rim of their souls and makes everyone around them better.

Thunderstorms have been serving me lessons all year long, reiterating that the “perfection” of wedding photos dies in meticulously curated moments. Wedding photo perfection lives when photos are perfectly imperfect, in the raw and rainy joy of it all.

He stood up in the middle of our first phone convo and LITERALLY said, “I’ve heard enough.”

Speaking to his fiancé, he followed that with, “She’s the one. She’s the only one who can capture this night like we’ll want it. Let’s book.” 🥹

These two didn’t have a typical wedding planned—they aren’t typical people. They are EXCEPTIONALLY WONDERFUL humans who decided to turn a proposal dinner at one of their favorite restaurants in East Nashville into a wedding. They realized they would already be surrounded by those most precious to them, so why not?

Their wedding evening photos feature shock and awe as their closest friends and family both won (and lost) bets on what was really happening that evening, a look at the gourmet food artistically prepared by a local James Beard award-winning chef and a peak into what felt like a nod to the aura of Italy.

Her favorite photo is the first one and I have to say I agree. 🤍

“These are EXACTLY what I was hoping they would be.” She knew what she wanted: photos of the two of them being themselves exactly a year after they tied the knot.

Hire a photographer whose work already feels like you. When you love their style, you can relax, trust the process, and let real moments happen.

No pressure.

No performing.

Just honest, beautiful you two.

Thanks for trusting me, Jennifer + Alex

It’s safe to say we are split right down the middle on a lot of things: hamburgers or hot dogs? Snowboarding or skiing? Chocolate or vanilla? Wedding day first look or no?

I’m loving the first look/private vow situation because of the amount of space it leaves couples to feel their feelings together.

It’s a grounding moment. It’s a reassuring moment. It’s a moment Caitlyn and Bryant knew they’d appreciate, one that set the tone for the rest of their wedding day.

Whatever you choose to do, know yourselves and know what will really feel good to the two of you. And then do it.

Caitlyn & Bryant: thank you for showing up wholeheartedly and trusting your instincts. 🤍

Your most loved photos from this year?

- Jasmine’s & J’s engagement session
- Kennedy & Vincent’s “I do’s”
- Carlie & Thomas’s wedding blur
- Caty & Fischer’s engagement session
- Morgan & Spencer’s wedding walk
- Rachael & Noah’s wedding sendoff
- Maria & Drew’s wedding smooches
- Claire & Andrew’s couples session
- Ella & Jakob’s reception money dance

And I can’t say I disagree. 🫶🏼 As I look back, I get joy all over again thinking about the people I got to know this year, I’ve been changed for the better because I now know you.

To all that’s ahead 🥂✨📸

“I guess it’s just time to move on from photography. You’re lucky you’ve gotten this far, maybe this is the end. And maybe that’s ok.”

Last week while watching my dog dig for voles I was thinking both about how much it would suck if he found a dead rodent and also contemplating of the end of photography.

Why? I get sick of posting and like-culture, I HATE “selling” myself in a strange “market”, and even the word “influencer” gives me the ick. Plus, I believe that what I get to do is literally more valuable than I could ever project it to be.

Then my phone buzzed in my pocket as I received a DM from a friend asking for some *pretty important* photos (more on that later) and today I see my photos from winter 2024 featuring the floral genius of have been plastered over multiple pages in

🥺😭

So I guess I can’t quit. And also, I genuinely don’t WANT to.

Rachael + James tied the knot on New Years Eve last year—and then they partied hard. I went home at took a bath. 😂Looking back at their wedding creates a huge sense of gratitude for what I get to do every day and makes me so excited about what the future holds.

Christmas came early for Hannah & Steven, and oh what fun it was to watch her say “YES!”

Proposals are getting BETTER THAN EVER because in 2025 I will be referring anyone needing extra help thinking through then how to pop the question to who coordinates proposals with all of the feels, class and style one could muster, you’re gonna love her!

Thanks again Cheekwood for an insanely gorgeous proposal and if you haven’t already, go see the Holiday Lights on display!! 🎄

These are the chillest, sweetest two and their engagement session was a pure delight.

I’ve gonna say, engagement sessions this month? Straight fire. Loving every second of them!

Oooooooh do I love these twooooo!!! Two of the most joyful, good hearted, kind souls you’ll ever come across met each other years ago and will (finally) be tying the knot next summer.

Don’t you worry—I’ll be there to document it so you can spy on the sweet day to come.

Cheers to Luke & Valerie, and to a life packed with goodness ahead!! 🥂

This family made the lakeside feel like their living room, and when golden hour finally turned to blue, they chased each other around the lawn, threw leaves in the air and we called it.

If your family photos don’t project the soul of your family, you’re doing it wrong. 🫶🏼

I’m the president of a fan club dedicated to these two and a handful of their best friends who are mostly, coincidentally, named some variation of “Joe” and all from Long Island.

Except this is Katie and Nick, she “shaved her fingers for this” and it is my belief that “Nick” is short for “St. Nick” because he’s the kind of guy whose eye glimmers right before he cracks a joke.

At any rate, I love these two and think waiting for a year and a half to shoot their wedding is criminal.

Wait for dad’s first look. 🥹

I’m growing into the kind of photographer who firmly believes her job isn’t about picture-perfect moments, it’s just about real moments that happen to become pictures.

Weddings usually evoke pretty strong emotions and the more my couples and their people can authentically engage with each other in those moments, the better off their photos turn out to be.

There’s a cool NatGeo photographer named David Alan Harvey who says “don’t shoot how it looks, shoot how it feels” and I love me summa that.
