Tim Redman photographed Bates Mechanical’s plumbers on several active construction sites to build a new photo library for the company’s website. A marketing manager in Nashville hired him, and the two have worked together entirely at a distance.

His hardest setup was a cramped, far-from-clean public men’s restroom. He tucked small portable lights into the few gaps he could find and kept adjusting his angles until the scene worked. The jeans he wore that day didn’t survive.

Outdoors, he shot a hydro-jetting crew from ground level in upper-90s Atlanta heat. He kept it simple, bouncing sunlight back onto the plumber. Once he had the frame, he sent the plumber back into the air conditioning. His favorite image came from the top of a ladder, where a plumber’s neck-mounted work light flared straight back into the lens.

Tanner Garza photographed chef de cuisine Steffen Perico at Uchiko Plano for Plano Magazine.⁣⁣

The restaurant opened in Legacy West last year as the wood-grilled sibling to Dallas' Uchi, part of James Beard Award winner Tyson Cole's Hai Hospitality group.⁣⁣

Steffen learned to cook helping his mom with family dinners. Years later, he joined Hai at Top Knot while planning a move to Spain, and never left.⁣⁣

Today his menu centers on a wood-fire hearth. That fire turns out a whole fish served only in Plano and a bone-in short rib that feeds four. The team also hosts seasonal dinners with local partners, most recently Bonton Farms.⁣⁣

Amid all that precision, Tanner found the team's personality in a small Lego bonsai.⁣⁣

This year, 15 judges, mostly creative directors and producers from agencies and brands, selected 43 images across 14 categories. Winning images appear in a printed book and an online gallery.⁣⁣

Both of John's winning images feature skateboarders. His black-and-white shot of a skater mid-air took Best of Show. It belongs to an ongoing personal project about Los Angeles. His close-up of a Venice Beach skater won in the Portraits category.⁣⁣

Josh Edelson has covered more than 100 wildfires in California, but the Old Trails Fire was his first major fire assignment in Washington. He spent 14 hours photographing the aftermath for AFP as residents returned to what was left of their homes.⁣⁣

Unlike California, Washington offers the press no legal guarantee of access to a disaster zone. Josh had to be strategic and creative to reach the scenes he would normally walk into. He works in full firefighter Nomex, carries a fire shelter and keeps a chainsaw in his truck. He can stay self-contained for up to three days.⁣⁣

Once inside, Josh looks past the statistics to the human details. A family tries to match debris to the rooms they remember. A message spray-painted on the street asks if anyone checked under the car for a missing pet. When he photographs someone returning to a burned home, he keeps his distance. He waits for at least a nonverbal acknowledgment before raising the camera.⁣⁣

The work follows him home. Josh calls it “fire brain”: days of walking down ordinary streets, picturing the buildings in flames and planning where he would stand.⁣⁣

Ben Rollins got the call from the Financial Times the afternoon before. By 9 a.m. the next morning, he was on the floor at GE Appliances’ Roper Corporation plant in LaFayette, Georgia, two hours from Atlanta.⁣⁣

The FT story looked at the rise of “physical AI,” meaning robotics, automation and AI that are changing American manufacturing. It also looked at how that could affect jobs and wages. Ben photographed workers on the line next to automated systems. He also photographed students training on industrial robots at Walker Launch College and Career Academy in nearby Rock Spring.⁣⁣

When the shoot wrapped, Ben went to a Chick-fil-A, edited and sent the images from his laptop, and then drove two hours home. The story ran on Monday of a holiday weekend.⁣⁣

Clay Cook first photographed Anchal co-founder Colleen Clines in 2012. That editorial assignment grew into Stitched In Strength, a five-year personal project on the people and processes behind the brand. It took Clay to Ajmer, India, and became a 40-plus-piece solo exhibition at KMAC Contemporary Art Museum in 2024.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
Fourteen years into the relationship, Clay shot Anchal’s spring/summer 2026 collection in his Louisville studio. The non-profit social enterprise works with female artisans in northwestern India. The women learn to make eco-friendly textiles and home goods, including tote bags, pillows, scarves and quilts. Clay wanted the campaign to acknowledge the hands behind the work.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
Instead of seamless paper, Clay dressed the set with Gravity Backdrops, Anchal’s own curtains and an oriental rug. He mixed soft and hard light, giving it enough direction to bring out the weave and stitching. Wardrobe, hair and makeup, and set design all worked toward the same result.⁣⁣

Four Seasons brought Nicole Franco on to build a visual narrative around the resort's sense of place. Nicole shaped its Instagram Stories with natural light and a muted palette.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
She focused on secluded beaches, the rugged coastline, sweeping views and the lush, untamed landscape. Drone operator Prashant Ashoka added aerial views of the shoreline. Close details of the surroundings ground the sequence in the destination.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
The goal was a collection that felt aspirational yet rooted in the place. It now runs across the property's digital platforms.⁣⁣

10/07/2026

Tate Drucker spent her first assignment for National Geographic Traveller covering three corners of Malawi: the tea fields of Satemwa Tea Estate, the shores of Lake Malawi, and the wilds of Liwonde National Park. She traveled with writer Ben Lerwill, who kept her updated on where the story was headed so the images could follow the same threads. The photos had two jobs. They had to show why each place belongs on a traveler's map, and point to the conservation and community work that keeps it going.⁣⁣

Tate had just two full days in Liwonde, where safari luck can change overnight. Her best sighting came at dusk: a lioness and her cubs moving toward a riverbed, pausing to nuzzle each other. She got a few frames before dark. At 6:15 a.m. another morning, she photographed guide Lameck Michael scanning the misty canopy for a trumpeter hornbill.⁣⁣

With people, Tate works quietly. She uses a silent shutter and waits until her subjects forget the camera. At Satemwa, that meant photographing tea manager Emma Chimalizeni at work. On Lake Malawi, she arrived before dawn in Mtewa village and found women waiting on the shore for the overnight fishing boats. One of them became Tate's favorite frame from the feature.⁣⁣
