I am not concerned about AI causing human extinction, but I am concerned about AI causing the end of photography and art as we know it. I see images posted on FB that are not from the skill of a photographer but instead from the skill of an autonomous computer. The sad part are the comments that people post praising the skills of the person posting when they see these make believe images. I'm not opposed to computer generated art, but call it what it is!
I am trying to do my small part to keep analogue photography alive. This large format film image is another such attempt. I would be interested to know your opinion on AI and the future of photography!

Shelter from the storm
Some trips, the light and location are great but the wind isn't. On this trip the wind was 15-20mph, making long exposures with my 8x10 camera a bit of a challenge. This can become an opportunity to find locations I hadn't planned to shoot, but being protected from the wind you work with what you got. This one is a 5 second exposure at f45 with T-max 8x10 film.

People often ask me why I lug around my 8x10 wooden camera when digital is so much easier. For me, there is still nothing that compares to capturing the landscape on a large sheet of black and white film. It's slow and methodical and at $20 per sheet of film, you become very intentional about what you are photographing. When I get an image that I'm happy with, which doesn't happen often, it makes it all worth while. Also, being able to make silver gelatin prints completes the process!

Most people don’t realize Wewahitchka got its name from a Seminole expression meaning “water eyes.” The name comes from Lake Alice and Lake Julia sitting in the middle of town, looking like a pair of eyes from above.
This little rural town in Gulf County is also home to the beautiful Dead Lakes one of Florida’s most unique and peaceful places. Hard to beat the views out here.

The Dixie Mainline near Suwannee has a quiet past most people don't know about..
What looks like a peaceful stretch of marsh today was once a rough logging tram route in the 1920s, built to haul cypress out of these swamps. After the timber was gone, it went back to being a beautiful salt marsh road, eventually becoming part of the Lower Suwannee refuge.

I have been busy in my darkroom for the last month, going through many years of negatives. Making test prints as I narrow down my winners and losers, definitely more losers 😎 There is something therapeutic about cranking tunes and making prints in the dark. I have been doing it this way for over fifty years, kinda crazy.

The Florida landscape is incredibly diverse, the pitcher plants from the forest bogs of the western panhandle are a perfect example of this. This image is from an insects perspective, just before they get gobbled up, I just wish they would eat the ticks too!
