Town of Clarkstown Restores Historic Nanuet Cemetery With NYS Grant

Under New York State law, when a Cemetery Association becomes abandoned it defaults to the local municipality. New York State has an abandoned cemetery fund, that allows for a one time disbursement to assist municipalities that have “inherited“ an abandoned cemetery. The Town of Clarkstown received over $200,000 in grants for restoration work at the Nanuet cemetery, which is located next to the Highview cemetery on Middletown Road and Church Street.

Over 200 stones have been restored, many are historic. Including David Demarest, who was killed in the Civil War at the Battle of Gettysburg. His body was removed and buried 10 years later in Nanuet. In addition brush was removed and trees trimmed.

These individuals who have made many contributions to our country and county, and have passed on are now in an appropriate and respectful resting place. It was very powerful for me personally to document the transformation of the cemetery. A great job by the Town of Clarkstown and may all those in the cemetery continue to rest in peace.

12 Annual Anthony Amoros Memorial Car Show

Anthony Amoros, a 2012 North Rockland High School graduate, tragically passed away on Jan. 29, 2013 from injuries caused by a car accident. He had a deep love for cars and was studying auto mechanics at Rockland BOCES. His family created an annual car show and the Anthony A. Amoros Memorial Scholarship to honor his legacy by providing scholarships to local students looking to pursue a career in mechanics or law enforcement.

Anthony's legacy continues in all of the students supported by his scholarship - we will never forget Anthony Amoros in Rockland County.

Historic Pascack Road / Spring Valley One-Way Tunnel

The relatively rare one-way vehicle tunnel is located on North and South Pascack Road in Spring Valley, above are New Jersey transit train tracks. A traffic light was installed in 1966 that controls the flow of traffic each way but still safe to give a beep! I think in 2025, Rockland has four one-way tunnels - Suffern, Haverstraw, Blauvelt, and Spring Valley. Video from 1985 included.

Clarkstown Forever Remembers Rockland & 9/11 Heroes Thomas and Daniel Foley with Life-Sized Statues in West Nyack

In 2023, FDNY firefighters Thomas and Daniel Foley were memorialized by the Town of Clarkstown with a beautiful tribute in West Nyack, a place they called home. A life-sized statue of these brave brothers were unveiled in 2023 at the West Nyack Hamlet Green and Firefighter Memorial Park.

Thomas Foley of Rescue 3 died on 9/11. His younger brother, Daniel, of Ladder 49, spent days searching for his body and eventually found him 10 days later.

Daniel Foley joined Rescue 3 in the years following. He died of 9/11 related illnesses in 2020.

For generations to come, kids will come with their parents to play at this playground and walk by and look up at these two heroes, who represent the best of us and who gave so much. As someone who graduate from Clarkstown South, years later we would still hear the stories of the legendary Foley brothers. Yesterday, I stopped by to take some photos and just can't say how great of a job the Town of Clarkstown/Supervisor Hoehmann did on this. The next time you visit West Nyack, I highly recommend checking out the memorial - we will Tommy and Danny Foley in Rockland County.

The Cone Zone 🍦 in West Nyack, One of the Best Ice Cream Shops in Rockland County

Donna Narciso, a lifelong Rockland County has owned and operated The Cone Zone in West Nyack for 30 years. The Cone Zone is a traditional, all-American ice cream shop that offers a variety of ice cream, yogurt, glace, and cakes. For Clarkstown residents, the Cone Zone holds a special place for many, it was a first job, a place to go on a date, celebrating a sports win or an important event in life as a kid, etc.

The Town of Clarkstown is mid-way through the revitalization project in downtown West Nyack, during this time it's very important we all support the small businesses down there that have been impacted by the work. With the new playground and upgrades to the downtown, West Nyack will truly be beautiful.

Time to start telling stories again 📚

Over the last few days, I’ve fallen back in love with photography and videography. For me, capturing a photo or video is a way to tell a story, whether it’s about a person, a business, or an important moment in someone’s life.

Over the past six years, I’ve taken well over 100,000 photos, and proudly given people framed photos of those special days. After a short break, I’m very motivated to be back making content 🎥

My plan - I have been speaking to a bunch of people over the last couple of weeks and can’t wait to show you some of their stories and videos I will be doing. Small businesses are the heart and soul of our community, so if you know any in Rockland County that are struggling and could use some free photos or videos, please private message.
