In a few weeks we'll be celebrating the 10-year anniversary of Hengxin joining our family. I wish I could go back in time and tell the terrified couple sitting in the civil affairs office in China, waiting for the little girl to enter the room, that their life would never be the same. That they were about to meet one the most remarkable people they'd ever know. Our family became complete the day she chose us.

The bulk of mini-session season is over and my heart is happy when I think of the memories we captured. 🍂 I didn't take as many clients this year, and it helped life to feel more balanced. The families this year were so lovely. I'm a big believer in mini sessions for families, especially. I truly believe most family sessions can be done in 15 minutes when we shoot quickly and make every minute count!

Some family sessions are extra special. This was one of them. My friend Donna and her family have been through extraordinary heartbreak in the past few years. Things that make me weep to imagine. But still she shows up to love on and care for her patients and coworkers. She is love. Throughout most of the session it rained. And then if on cue, her daughter Kaitlyn made a special guest appearance in the form of a rainbow. A reminder that our loved ones are never far away. A reminder that peace and beauty come after the storm. 🌈

Meet Ricki- a remarkable woman and friend who I met through our experience hosting our foreign exchange students. She's kind, empathetic, gentle, tough when she needs to be, and a mover of people. She's a force for good in a divisive world. If you've ever considered hosting an exchange student, give her a call! She's the lady who makes it happen, supporting families and students all along the way! She helped us so much through our experience and we are so grateful for her. I worked for a time as a nursing instructor for Carrington College, meeting so many remarkable individuals along the way- both colleagues and students. Every time I return to campus, a part of me feels like I'm coming home. I love his stubbornness, his unwillingness to yield to the status quo, his fierce defense of the under dog. He is complicated, smart, and wickedly funny. I admire the devoted loyalty he feels to people of all ages who have his trust- something not earned lightly. He is maddeningly independent and someone I admire deeply.

The lines of people waiting to take prom photos at Kathryn Albertson Park were impossibly long, so we crossed the road to Ann Morrison Park and found a ditch to take photos in instead, and it worked out lovely. I'm a huge believer that location is the least important part of photos. Beauty can be found anywhere.
