Submechanophobia is the fear of manmade objects underwater. I definitely have a bit of “submechanophobia” when it comes to Great Lakes Shipwrecks. ⚓️🌊

I free dove wrecks this summer in Alpena, Michigan’s Thunder Bay National Marine Sanctuary, a protected underwater area filled with shipwrecks.

You can snorkel, free dive, and dive many of the wrecks, with most of them buoyed thanks to NOAA Thunder Bay Marine Sanctuary.

The propeller wreck was the ship, City of Alpena, which sank in 1880. ⚓️

The big scary wreck is the freighter Nordmeer, which is a more recent shipwreck that sank in 1966 just off the shores of Lake Huron. And she’s big...
472 ft big. 😳😰🚢

Looking for cleanups this Earth Month in Northern Michigan? 🌎🚮

Great Lakes Great Responsibility is an organization I’m especially proud to be part of, not just as a Board member, but because of the real impact they’re making across our watersheds. The goal is to remove 1 million pieces of trash and we’re already at 661,215 pieces collected and counting.

Every piece matters, and you don’t have to attend a GLGR cleanup to be part of it. If you pick it up, it counts.

👉 Log what you collect here: https://www.greatlakeslove.org/take-action-main

Spring is HERE, which means cleanup season approaches. Join the fun this year as we take on several locations in northern Michigan, all to improve water quality in our precious Great Lakes. 🌷🌏🧤🪣

We are approaching 1 million pieces of trash removed — can we accomplish it this year? Let’s do it! 🙌🏻

Thank you to this year’s cleanup season sponsors: Dip , Heaven’s Edge Cottages, and MI-Insights Consulting. Interested in becoming a sponsor? Reach out: [email protected]

You know those moments in life when you really need everything to go your way… and somehow nothing does? When things slip out of your control no matter how hard you try? That was tonight. The camera wouldn’t cooperate, the wind kept shaking the tripod, my hands were freezing as I rushed to adjust the settings. Nothing worked. And honestly, that’s okay.

If you’ve ever wondered whether the universe is trying to teach you something, it probably is. Tonight, my lesson was simple: look up from the camera and take in the miracle above you. None of this is in my control, and that’s a strangely beautiful thing. 🌌

Taken this evening, at the Frankfort light. 🌊🤩

What is life like when you are dating a well-known Great Lakes shipwreck diver and photographer? It’s getting some amazing shots and art from the adventures we go on! What turned into Chris Roxburgh asking me to be his drone photographer on a Manitou Passage Shipwreck expedition in 2022 has now turned into him being my photographer for brand deals, content, etc. A full circle moment three years later. 🤍📸

In November 1886, the 125-foot schooner Metropolis became lost in a snowstorm and ran aground southeast of Old Mission Point. The cargo of pig iron and lumber was salvaged, but the ship was abandoned to the elements. The remains of the Metropolis are divided into a shallow debris field just offshore in approximately 8 feet of water and a deeper portion of the hull in 120 feet of water. With Jacqueline Bishop
