350 ft and you can still pick out shed antlers

That’s the difference between satellite imagery and true drone mapping

36 thermal hits. Every one of them does.

Thermal surveys are incredibly powerful for herd analysis. They do not just show where deer are using the property, they show you the true population structure.

In this case, it is pretty clear what the next step is. Time to build a harvest plan and start working toward a healthier buck to doe ratio.

Wrapping up another herd analysis. So much to be learned this time of year about the herd size and health of the habitat. 76 antlerless and 7 bucks on about 250 acres. A little more focus to be put on does this fall.

4 shed bucks hitting the river on a warm day in early March!

A unique looking thermal signature turned into a bobcat! We were able to follow along as they were hunting through the timber. So cool to watch! Troy Coffey

182 deer on 500 acres.

We just wrapped up a thermal drone survey over 500 acres of prime Iowa whitetail ground and the results were eye opening.

Total deer located on March 1: 182

Breakdown from the analysis:
• 25 shed bucks
• 4 bucks still carrying antlers
• Several button bucks
• And a whole lot of does

The landowner already knew there were a lot of does on the property. What the survey revealed though was just how extreme the imbalance really is.

The current buck to doe ratio is greater than 1:5.

This is exactly why thermal herd surveys are so powerful.

For the first time, the landowner now has real data instead of guesses. We can clearly see herd density, buck numbers, and the true ratio across the property.

Now we can build a plan to start chipping away at that ratio, which will improve buck age structure, herd balance, and the overall quality of deer on the farm for years to come.

Better information leads to better management.

Herd Analysis is best with the antlers still on, however with the technology we still tell if it is a buck. This guy made it a little too easy with his gigantic pedicles!

Thermal check on the herd and one decided it was cardio day. Even deer get the zoomies.

Thermal technology never stops amazing me. Watching a herd move naturally across the landscape while birds lift off in real time shows just how powerful aerial herd analysis can be for wildlife insight and land management.”
