A mother guanaco and her little one keeping a close eye on the photographer. Guanacos are relatives of llamas and are perfectly adapted to Patagonia’s cold, windy, rugged landscape.

For a photographer, these are the moments you hope for — beautiful surroundings, a natural interaction, and two subjects willing to pose. Although judging by Mom’s expression, my photo session was just about over.

On my Iceland tour, we visited Brúarfoss waterfall on the final day, but it was easily one of the most memorable with its intense turquoise-blue water and peaceful canyon setting.

From April 2021, a super bloom of purple lupine at Folsom Lake. Paired with a colorful sunrise, it was a lucky combination. Walking around the shores of the lake yielded numerous compositions with a sea of purple in every direction. Because these types of blooms don't occur very often, it makes me appreciate these moments in time all the more.

Santa Maddalena Church is a small 17th‑century chapel set on a gentle rise in the Val di Funes, framed dramatically by the Odle/Geisler peaks of the Dolomites. Its modest Baroque design—simple white walls, a pink‑edged façade, and a slender bell tower—reflects the rural character of the valley, and it’s traditionally associated with the legend of Saint Magdalene’s arrival in the region. Today it’s one of South Tyrol’s most photographed landmarks, not because of grandeur, but because its quiet, pastoral setting creates a striking contrast with the sheer alpine cliffs behind it.

Last October in Yosemite National Park was a magical time where the oaks, dogwoods, and aspens were all ablaze with color. This is my shot of Half Dome from the Sentinel Bridge.

What makes Hanalei Bay special isn't just the colors—it's the atmosphere. Families stroll the beach, surfers catch their final waves, children jump from the pier, and people naturally grow quieter as the sun nears the horizon. There are no towering hotels or loud boardwalks competing for your attention. Just waves gently washing ashore, the occasional call of a seabird, and the silhouette of one of Hawaii's most iconic landmarks.

For me, it's one of Kauaʻi's signature scenes: the weathered pier leading your eye toward the fiery horizon, with the lush green mountains providing a dramatic backdrop unlike almost anywhere else in Hawaii.

In landscape photography, sometimes you can carefully plan a shot and sometimes you have to take what you're given. On my recent trip to Maine, it wasn't a photography trip, but I couldn't pass up the opportunity to shoot Bass Harbor Head Lighthouse in Acadia National Park when I had the chance. It wasn't the "right time of year", nor was it the best tide. I had to risk life and limb to climb out onto the rocks with a couple dozen or so other people (though I was the only one out there with a tripod), and I couldn't get to the angle that I wanted where the lighthouse wasn't obscured by a tree. However, for my efforts, I was rewarded with an absolutely gorgeous sunset, and I was pretty elated with the shot I did get. I'm pretty pleased with this one, folks.

Seljalandfoss is a waterfall in South Iceland that you can walk behind (cue the "backside of water" comments). On this particular evening, the sun was in a perfect position to backlight the falls. Once I climbed the stairs to reach this position, I had to constantly wipe my lens because of the mist. The sound was deafening as I tried to set up for this panorama shot as well. I am pleased with the final result, as it instantly takes me back to that magical place and time.

It's been over a year since I stood in this spot, mesmerized. After processing this image, I am still in disbelief that a place such as Iguazu Falls exists. And that I was fortunate enough to be there to capture it with my camera? Eternally grateful.

Blooms in the California desert. Last October in Anza-Borrego State Park, the desert floor was alive with sunflowers, prickly pear cactus, cholla, ocotillo, and more! This shot was taken just before sunrise, and the morning mist still hung on the distant mountains.
