This is the summer of the Goldfinch for me! I'm very fortunate to have many run ins with this bird over the past few months! What a beauty.

It's been about a week with the new bird feeder, and I already have some regulars! I'm very lucky that a male and female goldfinch pair have basically lived at my feeder for the past five days or so. Also have one Chickadee and Titmouse that show up occasionally. Not bad for only a week!

It's been kinda awesome sitting on my porch, watching the birds come and go. This is a male Goldfinch from today looking quite dapper!

As the Philadelphia Zoo Art Show quickly approaches this Saturday, for the first time at any show, I'm bringing some of my favorite zoo images with me! These will be in my bins, along with my normal wildlife imagery, with added text on the back indicating which zoo the animal was taken from!

There is a running joke that the best sunsets and cloud formations you see are in grocery store parking lots... and then when you go to iconic national parks and viewpoints, you see boring blue skies.

Yesterday I was shopping for groceries with my son and as I was leaving, these awesome storm clouds at sunset were being followed by the rising moon. I ran home, grabbed my camera, and got a few shots in. I need to chase clouds more... very pretty.

I finally put up a bird feeder!

I hurt my back at my last show, so I wanted to still practice my photography without compromising my back more, especially with my upcoming fall show schedule.

It's been a lot fun planning where to put the feeder on my deck for optimal imagery. The number one priority is a clean background, and with a lot of trees and noise scattered around, it's been a fun mental exercise positioning the feeder accordingly.

Today, I'm planning to add a few perches for the birds :)

The Eastern Kingbird has been added to my 1x2 crop series of photos! I've always found this bird quite challenging to photograph, so I'm happy about this outcome.

One of my favorite shows every year! If you plan to be in Ocean City, NJ this weekend, come visit me on the boardwalk at the Boardwalk Art Show! I have some new images on the wall 🙂

I'll be here today and tomorrow from 10 AM - 6 PM, and then on Sunday from 10 AM - 4 PM, right across from Castaway Cove amusement park.

Lighting situations you find yourself in are so critically important. I get impatient a lot of time trying to force pictures & edits when the light wasn't there (even though some of my favorite images have been taken on cloudy days / in dense forest cover). Images like this humble me, showing me I force too many images when a shot isn't actually there due to poor lighting.

There is no substitute for the real thing; no substitute for a good cross light casting interesting lights and shadows across the subject. This image was a good teaching moment for me.
