Yesterday felt like a beautiful summer day so I headed up Mount Shasta to Bunny Flat for a little afternoon walk. The mountain and the dappled light was so picture perfect that I did take a photo, even though I've been a bit burned-out taking landscape images and have been focusing on abstract photography. I do miss the joy of landscape work - the delight in seeing a scene seemingly glowing there in nature ready to have its picture taken - and I do miss many of you long time followers (more than you could imagine), but with the restricted Facebook algorithm most of you don't see my posts anyway. It is fun to share photographs of our area, and beyond, though! 😊

Yesterday I went up to Bunny Flat on Mount Shasta near sunset. I've always loved the smooth flowing lines of snow-covered Avalanche Gulch as I look up the mountain, and the late afternoon ridge shadows created a playful effect as I zoomed in with my camera.

Sold!
My photograph titled Sun Dance, taken at Lake Siskiyou, will be on display at the Liberty Arts Gallery in Yreka, California - the exhibition's opening reception is tomorrow, Friday December 5th from 5-7. The show closes January 9th. I titled the piece Sun Dance not realizing I'd already named it Liquid Gold, so it's Liquid Gold on my website. 😁 The image quality is much better on my website since I've reduced it here to prevent theft. If you are in the area, check out the show!

Late afternoon at Lake Siskiyou, just outside Mount Shasta City. I like the simplicity of this photograph and considered converting it to black and white but then didn't want to lose that subtle hint of color in the water and sky. The lake was so full we could't walk on the sandy shore anymore - we are always happy for water.

Mount Shasta as seen through the cloudy haze one day last week. This photo was taken in northern Siskiyou County, at least 40 miles from Mount Shasta. Our mountain looms large from great distances, much greater distances than from where I took the photo. ❤

Once the clouds cleared in Mount Shasta City yesterday I went out to check on the new snow on the mountain - Mount Shasta. It was windy in town during the storm, so I imagine Mount Shasta lost a good bit of snow to the wind, but was still looking quite lovely.

Two days ago a friend and I headed out to see what we could find to photograph. The day was hazy and the color of the landscape was a bit washed out, but Mount Shasta was still regal and impressive and beautiful there in the distance.

I'd read that here, in Mount Shasta City, the aurora borealis would only be visible by camera, so I wasn't interested. I have mixed feelings about northern lights photography because the camera can see so much more than the eye, and in the end it feels like cheating (to me). But then I was curious and stepped outside my house with my camera anyway, not expecting anything, surrounded by trees, but there it was, quite visible!! I did very little to this photo in post processing, but I did take down the exposure, darkening it a bit, so the image would look like what we were able to see. The show didn't last long but, as always when we can see the aurora borealis, it was super special and lovely.

Yesterday late afternoon I was able to catch a glimpse of Mount Shasta from town - town being Mount Shasta City. I wanted to see how much snow the Red Banks received so I got out my telephoto lens and zoomed on in. Red Banks is the chain of rock formations you can see toward the right. I'm wondering if strong winds high up on the mountain already removed some of the new snow - I was expecting to see solid white.

This photo is from Bunny Flat on Mount Shasta late this morning. Snow covered Mount Shasta is there, hiding in the clouds. 😁 I waited for about an hour to see if the mountain would show itself but, no. You can see the snow at Bunny Flat, though. 😁❤

It was raining for much of the afternoon here in Mount Shasta City yesterday. When my husband Eric came home from work the rain had stopped and we went for a quick evening walk. I never expected to be able to see Mount Shasta, figuring our mountain would be well hidden by clouds. Nope, there it was - in total white grandeur! All that fresh snow!! My husband took a cell phone photo - it was already pretty dark and the image quality isn't good, but I think in this case the magnificent view is more important than image quality. 😁 😍
