I have shot in many arenas in the last 35 years, first in Rusk, then 4-P in Carthage, but my my true career started at Wheeler Arena in the outskirts of Tyler. In the early 1990s this arena was jammed packed with people every Saturday night during the summer months. Followed by one of the largest bull sales in the country. 1996 was the last year of the open rodeo series and a PBR in 1997. Hard to believe it has been 30 years. The bleachers and the announcer stand are now gone, but no one that was here during those hot summer nights will ever forget this place. This weekend the East Texas State Fair brings many of these memories back to Tyler. So be sure to check it out September 25-27.
