Just received devastating news. Richard G. McSpadden Jr. Commander of the USAF Thunderbirds from 2002-2003 has died in a plane incident.

This man inspired me more than any other aviatior as a kid by writing me a personal letter about the flat Stanley I sent to the Thunderbirds as a school project.

My thoughts are with the AOPA: your freedom to fly family, and Richard's family as well.
