I took a road trip to Vermont for the weekend and started out in the town of Wardsboro. That’s where I snapped some photos at the annual Gilfeather Turnip Festival. Yes, a turnip festival! This event “celebrates the tuber that originated in the town (population under 900) and is one of only two vegetables registered as an heirloom variety by the state.” It was awesome! I then stayed in the Mount Snow area for some exploring with my camera. I've added pictures taken at a local cemetery, quite old, and some at a covered bridge. Quite old too. Vermont was simply wonderful.

"Do you think that the naked factor distracts from your cause? Or do you think you are getting the bang for your butt here?" This was the question posed today to participants at the World Naked Bike Ride in Brooklyn, NY. Unfortunately, I do not have any "for mature audiences only" type of heads-up since the event was running quite late and I had to leave before any threads came off. Body painting is supposed to be a fun part of this event which I sadly missed photographing. Next year. In case you are wondering what this event is about, a site describes the effort as one that: "aims to promote bicycle transportation, renewable energy, recreation, walkable communities, and environmentally responsible, sustainable solutions to living in the 21st century." Last year's motto was "Less Gas, More Ass". I missed this year's motto. A few non-scandalous pictures and captions.

Last weekend I interviewed participants at the Steampunk World’s Fair. Steampunk was described to me as a subculture that weds machinery from the era of steam driven equipment with present & future technology. There’s also a costuming element to Steampunk that is borrowed from the Victorian era yet re-fashioned in an alternate manner. As one participant summed up Steampunk for me, it’s “retro-futurism”. I was so intrigued that I continued on a “Steam Theme” this weekend. Yesterday I rode “...New Jersey’s only operating steam locomotive” run by the Delaware River Excursions out of Phillipsburg, NJ. They offer several day trips that are a great fit for families, couples, groups, etc. I chose the Winery Train with a vineyard as the destination. Here are a few pictures. I normally interview participants at events but this trip did not lend itself to that. Young families made up the majority of the train riders so the adults were busy with their little ones. And I suffer from motion sickness so I definitely did not want to ruin their beautiful day. :-)

“What advice do you have to offer after your experience with cancer?” This was the question posed to participants at a Walk-A-Thon fundraiser for Mary’s By The Sea; a retreat for cancer patients located at the Jersey Shore in Ocean Grove. The day was quite hazy & foggy but not a single spirit was dampened. Incredible positive attitudes. Some of the advice here also comes from family & friends walking in honor of their loved ones. Thank you so much to all of the participants and to Diane Greenwald, friend & book club member, who made me aware of this wonderful event. Last but not least, thank you to the 4 legged friends who let me snap a picture or two.

"Ketchup, Mustard, or both?" This was the question posed at the new Callahan's hot dog joint in Norwood, NJ. The wait to enter was a good one to two hours. Jersey people are serious when it comes to their Callahan's. Thank you to all of the participants.

"Solid or Hollow?" This is the question I posed to shoppers at the David Bradley Chocolatier store (just outside of Trenton, NJ). Famous for their yummy treats including bacon filled chocolate bunnies. I actually got out of there by tasting only one of their chocolate covered almond samples. It took every ounce of discipline not to inhale the entire platter. And my preference is Solid when it comes to chocolate bunnies (lasts longer). Here’s what the shoppers had to say.
